I'm one of the few individuals whom loath the idea of buying an new tablet due to the ever annoying Windows 8. I've searched the web for another retailer ( other than Newegg) that would sell a tablet with Windows XP with a warranty but I'm only ending up with a headache. I dislike the possibility of having to use the program with the annoying boxes, unnecessary layers and absolutely mindless customer support. I've spent years gaining a general expertise of using Windows XP.

Do you prefer XP or Windows 8?

Any suggestions where I can find a tablet with XP or should I just buy the software and program it to a new tablet?

I still use XP and Windows 7. I loathe Windows 8.
The problem with XP is it is End Of Life.
Unless you have Service Pack 2 downloaded you can't even get security updates.
You can't get the service pack from microsoft.com any longer.

Here here! I thought about buying the program online or from Best Buy because I have the second service pack on a disc but I don't want to invest over $1200 on a tablet, install the XP operating system only to have it fail on me. I'm a bit of a geek but messing with an operating system always leaves me with a bit of nerves ( I've had quite a few computers crash from allowing a friend to install the operating system only to find in the long run that it was a fraudulent copy of the operating system).

Check with your local computer specialty stores. They usually have computers with XP installed that come with a warranty. And they are usually very affordable because they want to sell them so the only option people have left is Windows 8.

I have Windows XP and Ubuntu. I am not a windows fan, and realize that sooner the Windows XP is going to be obsolete - as that is how MS have been - they have always stopped the better Operating Systems to market their newer products - no matter how disgusting or even useless they are to their users. Say for instance Windows ME or even the Windows Vista or even the Windows 8!

Before you write me off on the mention of Windows 7/8 - I have just one question - why should I alter my configuration (increase the RAM or even get myself a touchScreen monitor) all for the sake of running something which will use all of them just for itself? I dont see any rationale in upgrading my good system.

Xp personally i hate windows 8 its not hard to use just complicated really easy to learn but xp is just very simple and is a lot more user friendly than windows 8 its turned into more of a dashboard weird tablet thing i don't like it really up to you though.

XP is EOL, so I would not go after that OS if it were me. Windows 7 is nice, I use it on a few computers. Windows 8 is nice too if you have a touch screen, otherwise it's pointless. ;)

I also wouldn't try to use Windows XP on a tablet. Do you remember the time before the iPad when there where a devices called "tablet pc" that had Windows XP installed? There's a reason why tablets didn't got popular back then and that is that Windows XP isn't suited for tablet use.

If you want a tablet and want windows get the Surface.

I also have no plans on upgrading to Windows 8 any time soon. But the truth is that today there's no point on programming a new application with Windows XP in mind because as Brandon said it's an End-of-life product.

I prefer Windows 7. XP is just outdated for my tastes. I love Windows 7 search.

Windows 8 on the other hand...urgh!

I've always been a huge fan of Win 7, I still haven't used Windows 8 more than walking around best buy. So far I don't think it's for me. Like said, Windows 8 is more toward the touch screen crowd, which looks like it works well in that aspect.

Actually, with very little effort you can make Windows 8 function like Windows 7 only faster. And you don't need a touch screen to do it.

I have heard that this is possible and look forward to that when I find myself forced to upgrade. Right now I have Windows 7 and I love it more than when I had XP. The only thing I liked about XP was that I could get into the configurations and settings without messing anything up. With Vista I saw some difficulties but with 7 the problems are endless when I have a need to change thinngs!

I can't say that I've found that to be true, although admittedly they're in different places than was the case with XP.

What are you trying to change/customize?

Definteley Windows XP and 7 over Windows 8.
I mean why the hell did they feel the need to get rid of the Start Button in Windows 7?

As to getting a Tablet, I don't recall seeing any tablets around nowadays with XP on them, it's either Android or Windows 8.

I have a 17.1 inch screen and need to know where to change the global setting for my desktop letters for the icons. Also, I am used to being able to find the Windows folder to dump cache manually for all browsers and not just the current one that I am in. I want to be able to create a wireless home network to the uverse box with the laptop and the Boxee for the television because I'm using the cable for the Boxee. Oh the love of little details I used to know so well.
