This thread could go on 100 pages and I'm sure Juan read the thread already...
I doubt he wants to come to terms.

If I was in your position I'd create a new company to compete with vBSEO, create an importer to bring all the vbseo data to the new SEO plugin and be done with it.

You will just need to hire some competitive developers. Maybe Dragonbyte-Tech could help since they are still fully invested in vBulletin.

This might be cost prohitive but in the end people that are still using vb3x may come around.

Trying to save a company with a damaged rep such as vbseo is just not going to happen.

With the above said, it's still a long shot for this plan to work.

Are you kidding about Dragonbyte-Tech? If they can't have it on their site they want nothing to do with it. They wanted to bring me on board the catch was I had to sign over the rights to my current mods to them. Um, not for me. I have offered my services to Ilia if she starts a new SEO company and I'm sure others would offer their services as well. I just want Juan to reply and get this all over with so customers can prepare for either a transition, closure, or switching to a new SEO product.

I don't want to sidetrack the convo here, but I feel it's pretty important to defend ourselves against that allegation.

We don't require any coder joining the team to sign over the rights to their current mods. We only require the rights to mods that will be sold through DragonByte-Tech or under the DragonByte-Tech name, this is so if the coder ups and disappears, we still have the right to modify, update and support it.

We also have no problem with coders continuing to sell their own work elsewhere while working with DragonByte Tech.

I tried to find the conversation where we discussed this, but I was only able to find a different conversation, with you offering to sell your entire portfoilo to us for $220. We declined that offer.

Sorry for the intrusion, and best of luck, Ilia.

EDIT: I found some of the original discussion - you agreed to work with us, agreed with our terms, signed the contract, and then withdrew because of your college workload. I cannot for the life of me fathom why you feel the need to trash us publicly now.

Sounds like I struck a nerve somewhere. :woot:
I brought DBtech into the mix because lets face it, they are the only active mod community that has stuck by their customers over the years, even throughout the dark times.
DBTech's products always been top notch, can't say the same about other developers.
They are fully invested in vBulletin.
If ILIA truly wanted a quality product with the right support day in and out, then I think they would get DBTECH involved in this project, and if anything she would be the one hiring them, not the other way around.
This means she would be the one calling the shots/tos and so on...

    Not t
Not to mention the fact that that some of their products are problematic and many conflict with other mods or core functions. I tried two of their early mods and both caused me a lot of grief, one even trashed my database when I uninstalled it so I had to restore from the previous day's backup. They're the last people I'd want to see in control of vBSEO, personally.

2 of their early Mods, so you are assuming they couldn't or wouldn't improve, i have only had 1 problem with 1 of their Mods and they fell over themselves fixing it for me, so i must disagree, sorry.

Honest question, what is the point of vbSEO now that vB4 is completely search engine friendly? I use the vanilla install, and our forum posts shoot up to the front page of relevant Google searches within 10 minutes. Maybe it's just time to say farewell to this business? Seems to be a whole lot of drama for something that isn't actually necessary in any way.

I hated the default SEO which was a weak attempt at best. Plus vBSEO did so much more than just a few url re-writes.

Totally agree with Code Monkey above. I would never have purchased vBSEO at all just for the friendly URLs but even there vBulletin's built-in version of friendly URL's is buggy (vB4 - no interest in even trying vB5).

When I tried it on a new vB4 installation approx 9 months ago it was producing a lot of 404s or server error messages.

To be fair, I did try it on another forum and there it seems to be okay so it may have been an interaction between server configuration and vBulletin's friendly URLs. However, we purchased and installed vBSEO on that forum, and it functioned perfectly right away and continues to be error free 9 months later.

The third friendly urls option requires you to use some redirect rules via htaccess, sounds rather like you didnt have them, or they were not functioning. Just curious as Ive never encounted an issue with any of the settings. :)

To be honest, I'm no longer 100% sure but I believe I used the same option on both sites and it only worked on one of them.

Did you look in that extra folder though that's included in the vB4 download package containing the htaccess files you need to use if picking a certain URL rewrite option. I ran a test board using vB4 and a SEO option that requires you use htaccess. I had no problems, but it was only a test board and didn't run for that long.

Well, as I said this was an earlier version of vB4 and for t6hat forum the problem was resolved by purchasing a vBSEO license so it's no longer an issue.
