You know that guy who apparently stole some people's modifications and caused some other minor controversy in the XenForo community? Well apparently he annoyed IPS so much they're threatening to sue him: He says anyone who wants a copy of the e-mail can get it if they contact him, so it could be interesting to see. But I have to admit, this might be going too far on IPS' part. I mean, is his criticism enough to be considered libel? I'm not sure. Yes it's annoying when people criticise you with incorrect information, but my honest advice is that doing something like this would hurt a company's reputation more than any baseless criticism would. What do you think of this potential court case in the making? Source: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/trying-to-decide-between-xenforo-and-ipb.42226/page-3
The purpose of the litigation is to get Howard to go away. If he doesn't show up, they obtain a default judgment. If he shows up without counsel, he will lose the case. Invision will cost him time and money until he decides it might be smart to disappear from their sight, and their sites. It's about money and they have a lot more than he does. Most people would be stunned at what qualifies as libel, slander, defamation, and such. Tort law is an island unto itself.
I'd guess nothing. They probably have an attorney on staff. If not, they most certainly have one on retainer.
He claims he knows about numerous exploits in IPB and has made it his personal crusade to tell lies about IPB at every forum he visits.. When confronted and asked to show proof he can't deliver. The guy is a blowhard, thief and pirate and has zero credibility. I hope IPB follows through with this. The guy deserves every bit that they give him.
Can anyone confirm that the email is legitimate? this is very interesting and I'd like to follow the case if it is.
Saying "My Opinion" isn't really going to save his bacon, it's more about him doctoring a screen-shot on purpose to spread false lies intentionally. That's what IPS are not happy about most, and Lindy shows Adam basically copied text from that thread into his own IPB editor, then changed it taking a screen-shot pretending it was something it wasn't. He's been banned from vBulletin not long ago, doing pretty much same thing.
I agree. I am keeping my mouth shut. I thought I liked the guy but he publicly admitted that he stole themes of others. I mean, really? Who does that? It's the same thing as a hacker going on the tallest building in the world, with tons of cameras swirling all around him and he's yelling to the world "I stole IPB's code and hacked all of their sites!" So, if this suit is actually real... Go with it. Hit him on his knees. It's bad enough that we have Internet Brands hitting xenForo, but this guy goes on a crusade to destroy another to insult injury. I mean, what happens if xF loses this lawsuit? What's the other alternative!? IPB? With the enormous amount of hacking? Really? Or go back to vBulletin, riddled with bugs, and errors frequently? What is this guy trying to accomplish by doing this?
I remember reading about him and the pirated styles, hadn't really paid attention to him since. Doesn't he have that "anonymous" forum or something? I think I looked at it once and there was a splash page or sorts that then linked to the forum.
He does and it now uses Xenforo. I would say what caused the issue with IPS when he was a customer, but I think the best thing now for everyone is to move on. He has a forum to manage and grow.
aww, we like controversy The one I was thinking of is "socially uncensored" from what I remember, but it looks like the site is down now or something.
Ohey so do I, and that justifies me bumping this thread. He obtained the database details to a person's website saying that he was going to do modding work on it or something like that and then imported the DB to his own forum to make it look bigger. Or something like that.
