I've seen this done on other sites before where the arcade was a really big part of the site, lot's of games being played all day long. The forums had icons in the post and profiles to show what users has what wins and trophies etc..

Can an arcade be used for promotion and then what would you do to get the users to post on the forums?

I don't see it being used to promote a forum unless it's a gaming forum. I wouldn't add a arcade to my forum unless my forum was related to gaming, and if it was then it'd be a great way to promote a forum, especially if you add custom games.

Doubt it, not anymore like they might have done 10 years ago. People play free games on their mobile phones now, it's not like people are stuck for ways to play free games or even download them for free to their mobiles. So why would anyone want to waste time playing some basic flash game on a forum?

I have seen a site that was somewhat popular for that. They were specifically built around the arcade, though. That was the main part of the site and the forums were an addition later on. People would visit for the games as a gaming site and a few might trickle to the other parts of the site....not the other way around.

Mark.B, who runs BC Forums has lots of games installed. His site pretty much revolves around them to get kids joining, he has thousands installed I think? But they don't do his forum any good. It's kid stuff going back 10 years when flash games on sites was a popular way to play online games and mobile phones only just started getting more popular using same type old flash games at the time.

Old hat now! And Mark runs his forum stuck 10 years in the past.

Your average mobile phone game wipes the floor now with any basic forum flash game you add. Each to their own, but personally I don't see the point in adding a Games Arcade to forum board, not these days.

I would but it would smack my server back to last year and I already dealt with that once in the past 30 days.
