Anyone ever use any of the paid backlink services before?
If so was it worth it, and what company would you recommend?

I've never paid for backlinks, but I've purchased programs to help automate the process.

Never bought links either. But, getting blogs to review your forum is a good way to get some links. Same with promoting things on Tumblr/facebook.

I've owned bookmarking demon for years.
My current internet sucks though for these programs, so I haven't been able to run this really this year.

I remember this site being popular years ago, not sure how well it works these days though. http://www.text-link-ads.com/

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is bad for Google?

I believe it is, and if it was as bad as people claimed, they wouldn't be ranking in search. I'm not entirely sure since I never used the service. But @Dan Hutter @Monster or @Brandon may know more about the service and if its "black hat" seo to use it.

There's one danger with SEO: Namely that Google will automatically put sites on a black list, ranking them down, if they're known to use SEO.

To quote Matt Cutts: "I told micromatic.com that they had a great site, so they should stop trying to buy backlinks and spend more money to reward their inhouse SEO..." http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/tell-me-about-your-backlinks/

There was also Digitalpoint's co-op link exchange program that helped a lot of people rank well. I think it was popular back in 2006-2008? Then Google ended up cracking down on those sites that were using it. The more indexed pages you had, the more your link showed up on other sites.

I have done this. I run the largest social network online for storm chasers (Chaser Update) and a few years ago, when I started it, I needed more members. I paid $250 for a 125x125 banner button and dofollow advertisement on the National Storm Chasing Convention websites for a year. I then paid about $50 for 300 post cards to be made for my network and set out on a display table at the convention for that year. It got me about about 200 members.

I also purchased online radio show advertising for a few shows at $25 each show. It was a show about storm chasing. It got me 75 members in 10 minutes. Crashed my server at one point LOL

Ahhh... the good ol' days of being able to outrank a company for their own company name. ;)

#1 for "eharmony" for awhile, with eharmony.com being #2... Made some pretty decent affiliate income that way. lol

No, I've never paid for backlinks when I've used computers and websites to earn money. I think that it is worth it to build organic links mostly even if it does take a bit more time...

It really doesn't take more to use the free route :) There are secrets to it, you just got to go looking for the articles and what not to tell you how and then practice those techniques. A lot of people will link to you without even you having to do a link exchange with them :D

Rather than purchasing links from some kids from websites like Fiverr, I would rather suggest you start using the service of some SEO company. Its much more worth it, and you shall be protected from various SEO related issues. When you buy links, they never bother with whether it shall adversely affect your website. They just blast your website with their link list, and you hope it may help you. Nothing more.

I have used numerous backlinking services. Though most of them are useless since the links are coming from so called junk websites or from linkfarms. In order to get quality backlinks we should do some research before buying. In freelancer sites I have seen many good providers. Also webmaster forums are good places to search for these services.

    Nope, I don't.

If I had the cash, I might have considered it at some point. I still don't think I would currently because of all the algorithm changes, though. I would be afraid that the backlinks would look unnatural and would get me flagged.
