What is a good minimum character limit to set for forum posts.

You don't want people to post short useless posts like "thanks" all the time, but at the same time, if you set it too high, they'll just add random gibberish to hit your minimum limit.

10 char is the standard I believe.

Mine is set at 5 I believe because we have a forum games forum. We don't see a lot of users spamming because they also make the effort to put more words into their posts.

None on mine. I allowed responses such as "ok" - we were some kind of support forum, so they were acceptable replies. If you made the character limit, say, 10 characters, they'd have gone with "ok........". That doesn't really make any difference at all.

I keep the character limit low on my forums, some answers would be very short and I don't want users to just pad the post with dots...most common....

Ya, this is another reason why I keep it low as well. Not all users will make "big posts", some may want to post a few letters - especially in forum games.

I don't think I have a set limit. If I do then I want to remove it. I want good posts. Sometimes you are going to get short replies. I want people to post what is on their mind, short or long. Now if they are are posting just anything for a post count then I would have an issue with that. I have a offer to the first 25 members to reach 100 posts. They get a "Founding Member" banner and premium level upgrade for free. I told people that I don't want a bunch of short posts when tying to reach that level. The odd one is fine.

    Limits can be a pain.

Fair enough. I can see how, if you allow forum games, then you wouldn't want to set the limit very high. It'd defeat the point. I don't allow games like that, though.

Mine is set to low. Not every reply requires more than 1 char.
