Some of you may of either seen my tweets or stopped by the site and seen it was down for a few hours.
The host we use had a DDoS attack on their network.
Everything seems to be running smoothly now, our host my be switching to a cloud based host.
I'll keep you guys updated as soon as I find anything out.

How you guys thought about throwing Cloud Flare (http://cloudflare.com) in front of your domains? They say it thwarts a lot of the DDoS stuff.

Replied on that thread. Ashley.S has much more experience than I so I'll defer to him. I'm happy running it in front of both XF and vB though.

I was going to say right now at 1:33pm West Coast time, it says you are offline. The other thing is who decides when a site goes offline etc?

    huh?

Going down last night wasn't by choice and it's the first time I've noticed an issue since I moved to this host a few years ago.

    We're definitely "online" now :)

Hey there, I am talking about through PostLoop. It says even now, that you are Offline? So even though I am posting I don't earn anything for doing so. So that is why I was wondering why this happens?

    Hello @SassyBrat
I'm pretty sure I answered your question about postloop here.

This thread has nothing to do with postloop.

FYI Guys: CloudFlare will only minorly protect your site(s) from (D)DOS attacks, it won't stop hosting servers from being DDOSed only the relevent server hardware/software can do that.

CloudFlare is only a reverse proxy that filters your traffic for you, so you don't have to. It has it's pros and cons like most things, but CloudFlare sadly would have been 100% useless in stopping the attack, you would just see a different message that's all :(

The only way you can stop it is if you have a dedicated server and you have full control of it. Then you can do many things to stop attacks.. But most people host their sites on hosting servers so sadly they are at risk when someone feels the need to knock your site down
