Price of forums: what's your take

So, I was just thinking about this because how does one determine the price of a forum? Let's say don't generate a lot of revenue but it pays the bills. And it has over a million posts - shouldn't the price of the forum be based around the content and potential to generate revenue? Different people have different minds and see differently.

So, what I think is, a price of a forum could be determined by the content and/or revenue - what you think?

 

I'm pretty much the same as Bob although I do look at a potential revenue as for me it has to be a factor. Don't get wrong I wouldn't buy a board to plaster ads all over it but there has to be a ROI.

 

I agree with this. Many people think differently and come up with different ways to generate revenue so because a forum isn't making that much revenue isn't a reason not to buy it. I'd buy the forum for the content, memberbase and how active it is or how active it could potentially become if it's not super active. Saying that though, I wouldn't buy a forum that has less then at least a half a million posts or more.

 

Stats don't really matter. I have joined many forums with excellent stats that have 5-10 new posts/day. That's not activity for an established forum. So I'd say revenue is something I'd take into account. If the site already gets some, I can recover my 'losses' with buying it and be able to make even more. It's not easy buying a forum and you need to keep an eye on it for a while. A client of mine was 'this' close to getting what seemed like a very cool and active forum and in 2-3 days he realized the forum is worthless, even with those huge stats.
