Like say you have a gaming forum and you keep yourself updated to lastest news and stuff..

Or if you write reviews of recent games...

Do you believe posting topics like that could increase traffic(even help SEO?)?

Reviews = unique content so of course it can help you increase traffic. Only if you're building links to those reviews.

Totally agree, if you are creating your own reviews and such it is your own unique work rather than copied and pasted from someone else so in which case more people will be interested in reading your posts due to new information provided.

I also heard that if you have a "Freebies" "Discounts" thread, and post different giveaways and freebees that this also helps increase traffic as wella s post count. Any thoughts on this?

Definitely! That's why keyword research is important. You start and write content based on what people are already looking for. If you know a new game is coming out very soon, then you should create a thread about. Ask people if they plan to buy it or is it worth buying it. Then when the game comes out you want to write a review. It just makes sense to write about what people are already interested in or talking about. It's a great way to get traffic that may not be too competitive.

Excellent post Eddy! It's always good to check out the new news articles as well - because you never know, you can make a twist about it, and turn the thread into something good. I know I sometimes watch the hashtags on Twitter and come up with new topics based around the hash tags. Which, also gets me free traffic from Twitter.
