So just a random topic, what do you think about Scrapebox? More specifically actually using it.

If you don't know what Scrapebox is it's basically a black hat program that spams blogs and gains you a ton of backlinks in a short amount of times. It can also ping the blog comments created and I believe automatically create RSS feeds and submit them for you. Not 100% on the last thing as I haven't used it personally I just know about it.

My opinion is it's just spam and a blackhat program, nothing more. I would never use it because I simply would never step into the black hat world.

For $50 it's been a good investment for me, although I did just start using it about a month ago. It does most of what you mentioned plus a lot more. It's a great way to keep track of what your competition does as well. As for you calling it a blackhat program, I guess it depends on how you use it. I've been using several automated programs over the years, eg Bookmarking Demon, digiXMAS and some would call those blackhat apps, but I don't think of them that way.

I have to say that it's the reason there's so much spam on the Internet, ;)
I've disabled blog commenting from almost every website that's using the WordPress script that I own ( unless I missed one )

As for forums, they get hit hard but I hit harder, :giggle:

Why not add better spam addons to your wordpress install?
I have a blog that ranks pretty well and very little spam even makes it to my moderation que. ;)

PS. "Scrapbox" isn't the only program that does this and isn't the first by far :p

Scrapbox just put a lot of others tools into one app.

It's definitely one of the more known one these days.

If you don't look at is at blackhat would do you look at it as? I'm genuinely curious.

I understanding automating some tasks with programs but when it comes to a tool than can automatically post on thundreds od thousands of blog pretty damn fast it just feels like spam and cheating :\

Also I thought it cost far more than $50? More around $100 or something.

    Look forward to hearing back.

    @karoshio

It's 57 with a coupon, it can do a lot more then posting on blogs but that is a big part of it.
You can check out the video's I linked to. It may be one of the well known ones but that certainly doesn't mean it's the "top dawg" or biggest contributor to spam on the web. :)

A program that delivers highly targeted backlinks that I can sort by page rank.. sign me up. :)
Just because it has the option to automate the comments, doesn't mean you have to.

I don't think people should focus on one type of backlink "blog comments" but it doesn't hurt to add them into your network.
Scrapebox is a nice app for building your first and 2nd tier backlinks, your profile pages and other strong links back to your site already. ;)

I've been hit by the human spammers as well. There's no plugin that will stop those guys that just reads the title and spend 10 seconds on the page while submitting a comment to get a quick backlink.
I was not referring to ScrapBox itself, but the idea of it to automatically submit content to thousands of websites at once, ;)

different strokes for different folks :)

    Also I'll add this...
Since playing with Scrapebox I've seen the way spammers are getting through on my blogs and my friends blogs, I've been able to take action to reduce the spam on our blogs like.. How to Block Proxy Servers via htaccess

Years ago me and a couple users on my big programming forum users created a program that could be used, with modifications, to do what xrumer does. It was created by us for users on slow connections. They could connect with it, download new content or the whole forum if they chose and create their replies or new posts to be posted when they were offline. The idea behind it was so users could use it as an offline reader. It started as a tool for my site and transformed to a full bot that worked for multiple vbulletin forums.

It was abandoned when I sold the site. There is a thread about it at vbulletin.org.

Well I use Scrapebox for researching niches and checking my competition. A lot of people think that Scrapebox is just for blog commenting but this view in not correct. I'd say that blog commenting is just a minor portion of Scrapebox. Have a look at the add-ons and the scraper in detail and I promise you'll be amazed.
