So, will you ever consider purchasing the branding free option for one of your forums?
It costs $250 US, if I'm not wrong, ;)

    What do you think?

I ran a forum that I purchased brandfree for vb and vbseo back in the day but I don't think I would bother with it these days especially with it being 200$

Does it really hurt to keep the "powered by ..." , "software by ..." , etc. lines in software? It's a waste of money if you ask me!

The only reason I see anyone doing this is if they customize their community and make it very unique where they don't want others to know what software they're using. Other than that, I don't know:(

then why not just build their own software? I honestly find it rude when I see sites using software that is not their own and then decide to remove the branding, either by paying or removing it by breaching the software/license agreement because surely if you wanted a unique software/community you could just pay a developer than fork out for branding removal?

I generally don't mind showing the Powered by notice. Asides removing it because you don't want someone to know what software you're running is silly in my opinion pretty much anyone with a little experience knows what you're running just by the URL structure or layout.

In vB 4 the powered by notice became a link. I removed the link but left the powered by -- no site wide promotion from me unless you payin' ;)

On themes, if premade/publicly available I generally buy a brand free license just because I don't want my footer cluttered up nor do I want to give away a site wide link.

I would never bother, I look it at it's pretty damn obvious what the software is anyway and I love using it so I'm honestly happy for them to have that there with the backlink. I can't see any actual benefit to spending that kind of money to remove it when it's tiny anyway.

I've always liked to remove branding just to keep my site clean and to remove useless footer links which can add up when you're either adding a style, or installing a mod.

I don't do it so others don't know what scripts I'm using, I do it for the overall look of the site.
