Let's say you posted a topic or two and members start to argue on those threads, what do you do? Do you allow your members to argue and duke it out? Or are you an admin that doesn't allow this type of stuff? Like, when it happens, instead of letting members duke it out, you lock the thread down and such?

Personally if members are arguring, I tend to allow it to an extent because there's nothin like a good argument, and plus, drama attracts people. ;)

I let them duke it out. In time it dies down.

What I like about those types of threads is the amount of replies they get and the amount of traffic they produce. You get every forum type in them even lurkers will step into a good fight. You get the popcorn munchers, the wannabee moderators, the forum nazi and trolls. No other type of thread will get that collection of people involved.

I actually fired a staff member on one of my communities for closing one of those types of threads. What I've found is if you don't let die on it's own it spill over to other threads. Better to keep in one place.

If things gets too serious such as, "You mother f%$^ing piece of cr%p, how could you say that <insert topic contents here> is related to <insert topic title here>".
I'm perfectly fine with members debating on a subject and once the arguing doesn't get too serious like I mentioned above, then I'm good with it, ;)

Ya, one of my staff members locked a thread that other day - which was a review of the game she works for, and members were arguring back and forth about staff problems on the game. I, of course, was like let it go, let them duke it out. I love it how it gets the lurkers chatting, and so many users online. Drama is always nice to watch unfold, I agree. There's only one point to lock it - when it gets too personal.

I agree with @AWS, it's a great way to get traffic to your website.
Do you allow your staff to get involved? I think it would be best to keep them out of it unless it needed an intervention.

Arguments aren't bad and are totally allowed. Such discussions are what forums are about. Arguments that troll/break rules though are warned if continue are suspended.
