One of the things forum owners have to worry about is getting a C&D letter because of something a member posted. What do you do to moderate what users post and what have you done in the past if you found a user repeatedly posting copyrighted material?

I'd allow them to post it - only excerpts of the content, and a link to the content. That way, users aren't getting the full excerpt of the content and we wouldn't get in trouble with a C&D.

+1 This is generally what I do and advise the member not to copy/paste full articles in the future.

In 4 years of running a fairly popular board it's only come up 4 or 5 times and all but once I was sent an email instead of a formal C&D.

This has only come up a couple of times on our boards. I think it is very hard to control this because of the internet. People copy stuff all of the time. If someone sees good info they want to share it with others, as long as they don't take credit for that info. Some sites you can't copy anything cause something will pop up saying that "this article is copyrighted".
