So how has your experience been so far with the current host you are using for your site? Be sure to explain yourselves.

My experience with my current host has been like a yo yo really, it started off good, then went through a bad patch. Then it managed to pick itself up, then went back down and got sold.

Now since the acquisition, it's sort of picked itself up and support has been reasonably helpful, apart from when they basically accused me of being the abuser for my troubles, however I think that's all been resolved now.

I'll be closely watching my server for any pre longed problems, and should something else occur, I'll be back on their tale to get things resolved again.

My current host Hostpolar.com is a great experience, I switched to them a few months ago - from hostgator, and support has texted me when my site was ready to be moved from a shared environment to a VPS, we're always chatting, and making sure the site stays fast. And if I have a problem, I know my host is there to answer/fix things.

Well good to hear things are picking up. Sometimes things don't go well under a new management after a company is sold.
Great to know, you made a good move switching from Hostgator.

I know, but being that I have the CEO's email/msn I can always be a pest and ask him why things have gotten so bad again, lol

Ya, Hostgator was having too many lag issues for my community to begin with, I had to switch. /hates lag and loading problems. Hostpolar has been very nice to me. :)

Tell me about it, good thing you moved or I am sure you would have been suspended sooner or later.

A few years back, I bought my hosting and domain names through Bravenet. Some people say there are better hosts. But, for my purposes, I have not found any. To me, $10 a month hassle free web hosting was a small price for so many benefits. At the time they offered support for 10 domains and 200 sub-domains, though later they began offering unlimited sub-domains.

The subdomain feature is good for anyone with a blog AND forum and a regular site, so they can all share the same domain name but be distinct.

They offer 30 GB of space and 600 GB Bandwidth monthly. I'm not sure that would be enough for a massive forum that gets tens of thousands of visitors daily. But, for a small to medium sized forum or blog, it would be enough. I liked their easy FTP uploader that let me move files from my computer to the online web space. They made it easy to upload a website, blog or forum.

    Other beneficial features included:

    Unlimited email accounts
    PHP and MySQL database
24-7 staff support (and I know from experience just how good their staff support is. A few days after my site was to go live, it did not and the staff fixed the problem and gave me a free month of hosting.)
Web tools including integrated blog, site classifieds, forum, stat counter, etc.

I can't say enough good things about Bravenet. To me, they were a lifesaver.

I have a shared package on Downtown Host, and I've had nothing but positive experiences with them. It's a small company, so they're very accommodating, compared to the big mega hosting companies. My site's rarely ever had any downtime in the four years I've been with them, the support staff is friendly and helpful, and the prices are reasonable.

I do not know what to think of my current host. I am with Hawk Host and so far I have hit the CPU limit twice and I have almost been hitting the CPU limit for the last 3 days. My forum is a XenForo forum with 16 mods installed and 32 members.

I am not sure if its a mod or XenForo causing the high load. But I really don't want to have to uninstall any of the mods. So I will be moving the website to a VPS with KnownHost this weekend.

What plugins have you got installed, my suspicion is that it's most likely got to be a plugin causing it, because if it was generally a XF problem, we, and others using XF & HH would all be in the same boat...

I would agree that you need to try turning off some of those plugins and see if there is a problem within one of them. Many forums are hosted with HawkHost with great results. Many larger than what you're currently experiencing in terms of posting regularity/membership.

From what I know, AdminBB, AdminForums, ForumPromotion, EveryBB, Wober, etc are all successfully hosted on HH's servers. And they're much more active.

Yea I am 100% sure it is not a problem from Hawkhost, are you using any other scripts aside? As others have mentioned can also be a problem with any plugins you have installed.

Right now I used a dedicated, but the last shared hosting provider I used, HDWEBPROVIDER.COM, were fantastic. Their support is like no other.

Why did you switch? I am assuming because of your forum's growth? I may soon move over to VPS, don't need it at the moment though.

Partially because of growth, mostly because I wanted full control.

My current host is pretty good. My buddy owns the account though - and we haven't had any problems since we switched. I believe we're using Knownhost, but I could be wrong.
