Do you submit your website to online Directories? It can be a great way to advertise your website. I never really used them much but lately I have submitted AdminBB to quite a few, if you know any good directories please feel free to share them.

Lately, I've been submitting my station to directories of internet radio stations, but haven't found anything good for sites yet. *watches thread* Suggestions would be welcome!

I tend to submit to directories quite often - the more sites linking to yours, the better after all.

I've had PH submitted to a few, and I expect there are more but I just don't have time to heavily promote it right now :(

I use them. They were how I first got into advertising and such before I actually had a write up for the board. :) I'm not sure how much they help, but it's exposure, and that's always a good thing.

Yup, get as many linkbacks as possible (without spamming of course), and your heading in the right direction for great exposure and ranking

Good, its better than nothing, and exposure would depend on which directory you advertise in considering the amount of traffic they get.

I dont often use directories like I used to, but I do submit from time to time if I find one that I think will help my forum if I submit to it.

Yea, it's no good submitting your link to a webmaster forum for example, if the directory is a list of gaming websites, etc.

I did and for a long period I stopped because I only did forum marketing. Now I'm going to do all out promotion using every legal method.

I've used some directories before. However, I wasn't sure whether any traffic was coming from these sites so I stopped. Another reason I stopped was because of all the annoying backlinks they required.:cautious:

I always added my forum to online directories :) helped alot too when I did which was always an added bonus, I would spend anything from 1 - 2 hours a day finding good directories and adding my forum to them.

Its very hard finding good and reliable directories, you never know if it will help you or not when you spend your time by submitting to directories, dont just submit to any directory.

In the past, when i had a recipe blog, I submitted that site to as many free directories as possible. And, I think it did very well for me. Of course, it takes time to do that. In a pinch, you could pay a short tasker or staff member to submit the site to any of the directories you choose.

Here's a list of places I found online. You might want to check that they are still accepting applications for free site submissions. Sometimes, these things change. Some of these sites are do-follow, others are not. But, really it doesn't matter cause your actual directory listing will be in Google and a searcher will hit that page and then click right through to your site.

Also, most directories require a link back from your site, sometimes home page. Though you can usually do that from the bottom widget on your home page and not clutter up your side bar. That's what I always did.
