What's your thoughts on domains with hyphens in them? I dont have a problem with a domain having hyphens unless its more than one. And domains that do use hyphens are less brandable, so if you are looking for a brandable domain, having a hyphen wont help you.

Many people use a hyphen in their domains because if the domain keywords they wanted was already taken. Say I wanted to register admin-talk.com but it was taken, then I would probably register admin-bb.org.

I actually like them, as I think it makes the domain look neater and is not such a mouthful to say, not to mention it may be better in SEO too

Yea I dont think it affects SEO at all, and yea a hyphen does make some domains look more neat when you want to separate a certain two words.

It doesn't have an affect on SEO because its about having backlinks, and having quality content. It does loo0k neat though.

The way I see it is, if you are able to get an audience for any product/forum or whatever, they will type whatever to get there..

Hyphen or not, they will type it to go to some forum they like. But although Google doesn't seem to rank them as great, but still..

I am sure it doesnt affect SEO, and even if it did I think it would be the opposite. Sometimes domains with hyphens can be hard for people to remember, as they usually forget and type it without the hyphen.

I've had a few hyphenated domains in the ast and they've all ranked just as well as my other TLDs on Google, so they have no effect on SEO.

I really don't mind them at all. Sure, it can be confusing to some users if you're operating a brand (say your brand was nike sports for example - most people would go to nikesports.com when the actual URL is nike-sports.com), but it doesn't matter all that much as msot people would likely search for your brand to get to the site anyway.

I agree, good example you have there, and hyphens aren't a problem to me unless a domain has more than 1, and I have seen about 2 domains so far having more than 1 hyphen in it. Annoying and unappealing to me.

Well, personally I would have no problem with enigma-community.com :) As others said, I don't think it has any effect on SEO. And I'm sure there are times when they are in demand and you can sell them for something.

I think that they're just fine. A good example of a site that did extremely well with a hyphen is http://www.rune-server.org which had over 3 million posts last time I checked.

Of course there is nothing wrong with hyphens.. but there are certain things that can put people off. For example a domain with 2 and more hyphens or a huge domain like: FreeForumHost-Reviews.org which could have done fine without an hyphen being as big as it is.
