I know I recently gave up on another admin forum because they fired me for a stupid reason, so I stopped going there and posting - it was one of my favorites, but oh well.

So, have you ever given up on a community that you enjoyed? If so, why? What happened?

Not yet and hope I don`t have to
Mind you I nearly did when the admin would not listen to his staff
but I spend most of my time on my own forum and I hope I never have to give up on that as I love it

Ya, that's always nice - how long have you been a forum owner? Have you ever taken a break from your community? When an admin doesn't listen to his staff, then of course, its time to leave and go to another forum.

Yea I did, it was a long time ago. I left because the admins and staff had no idea how to run a forum, and never listened to the members. It went dead within a year, and recently the domain/hosting expired and I doubt the owner will renew it. So its completely gone.

Yes, I've given up on communities before, mainly because I no longer felt welcome there, two examples were freeforums.org support forum (a mod banned me for giving "incorrect support" what a load of bull crap if you ask me) & fi.st (they demoted me because I helped a friend start up his own host, and wanted to speak the truth about how unreliable their server was...)

I check up on freeforums.org from time to time as I enjoy posting on the support forums of freeforumhosts for some reason, but I gotta say freeforums.org is completely crap, and I remember the admin PMing me to remove AdminBB from my signature. I thought that was complete bull as others don't have a problem about it such as ProphpBB, another host I check up on. And I PM'ed him saying that, he read it and hasn't replied back.
Here it is: (They got prophpbb censored out lol)

I know, they are so harsh in their rules, they won't even consider removing or changing their crappy registration ads either...

Not yet, no. I've stopped visiting forums after having lost interest in them, but I've yet to be banned or to leave a forum that I enjoy for reasons such as poor management.

I have come across so many forums in my time with poor management, its not even funny. I recently left a forum for the staff members not knowing how to do their jobs.

Yes. I was a member of a few forums I gave up on. There was a change in power in one of them and the new owners were *removed* so I left. I also gave up on another one because one of the members there kept harassing me and telling other members I was being rude and nasty to her, threatening her, so I left.

I see this happening on many forums when a forum is sold/under new management people tend to leave as the new owner doesn't do a good job.

Well Ive tried given up on a forum (not for the same reason as you) but when some of conversations of members you know and are cool with have them, you gotta say something sometimes...

Then It destroys the whole point of trying...

For example, Theres a conversation with members you know for years, but you don't wanna post at the forum anymore to make other members fill the impact of you leaving for pissing you off for whatever reason...
But you can't help it, whatever conversation there having, you want to put your input in
But if you start doing that, it destroys your whole point of not posting anymore.

I haven't personally. I mean all forums I've been a staff on either closed down for a reason and never went back up and that's why I could never go back but other than that I've never really left a community that I enjoyed.

Sure, there are a couple forums I have given up on. But, it's been years. When I first gone online some time back, there was a really good forum for women affiliate marketers and business opportunity seekers. And, I really liked the forum owner. I felt like she was a really good friend. I could feel a trust connection with her, so I visited her forum often.

Then one day, I went to her forum and it was gone. Her other sites shut down soon afterward. I don't know what happened. She didn't pm me back on Ryze or our other related social networking sites to let me know what was going on. One minute her forum was there and then it was not. It was just so fast and unexpected. In some ways, that turned me off the whole WAH (work at home) type forum. I guess there were other things going on in her life that were more important than being an administrator. Still, I think there was great monetary potential for the forum. When that forum went down, it left a big hole in the work at home forum industry, considering how the forum wasn't just all about SPAM or advertisements.

Sorry to hear, I would be upset if a forum I enjoyed and frequented often just disappeared without notice..
