Heres a list of forum software that I have used in the past:

    XenForo (Premium) Active license
IPB (Premium) License sold long time ago
vBulletin (Premium) License sold long time ago
    MyBB (Free)
    phpBB (Free)
    SMF (Free)

Out of all these my two favorites is XenForo, and MyBB. XenForo is the best Premium alternative, and MyBB is the best free alternative. Just my opinion.

Freeforum hosts don't count by the way as they are not scripts/software. Also, only post scripts that you have actually used on a live site, and not the ones you *tested* and/or been staff on, because you really didn't use it.

vBulletin (had illegal then bought licence for GI)
    MyBB (Xavi-Studios, Xyzcon)
IPB - Never really used, bought because of hype
    TinyBB - Tested it out

TinyBB, what was that software like? Is there a demo for it if it's still around?

    Anyway:
phpBB: Very first one I used and I'm still using it to this day. Love it and I wouldn't go for anything else right now.
MyBB: Loads easier to understand than Vbulletin. Actually a free version of Vbulletin, which is what made it better yet!
SMF: Easy enough to work with. Not too many decent themes, though.
PunBB: Screwed around with this one for a bit. Didn't really care for it. Debated about using it on a live forum but didn't like the looks of it.

Hey ashley free forum hosts dont count as I stated in the first post as its not a script. And the ones you tested dont count either as you didnt use it on a site, but just tested it. So I have updated your post for you

What's the difference though? Even if you've never used it on your own forum, you're at least saying that you've tried it, right? I didn't think that mattered. Sure, on the one site I wasn't given full admin permissions, but I was able to try it, though. And where did I list hosts?

Oh yeah, Zetaboards is a host, isn't it? Sorry, I still get mixed up.

Trying a demo, or being a staff on a certain software is totally different than "using" it. For example, if I take a car on a test drive or rent it, I cant say that I owned the car can I? Thats what im trying to point out.

And yea you mentioned Zetaboards and IPBfree which are hosts. But no worries

    Let's see:
Website Toolbox (their forum software - not sure if that would count as it was hosted by them)
    vBulletin 3.50 - 3.8.3
    MyBB
SMF (converted to vBulletin after a nice deal)
    PHPBB
PHPfox's BB stuff (not sure what they called it)
CustomCMS's BB stuff (again no idea what the name for it is)
    XenForo 1.x
    IPB 3.x

Thats still not bad. MyBB and phpBB are two of the best free forum software available. Specially MyBB in my opinion.

I'm still with vBulletin 4, but I've tried SMF and IPB(years ago), but I'm sticking with vBulletin. I like xenforo though, might have to give it a try if I ever start another forum.

Ya, I can tell. I've seen a few forums on it already. It reminds me of vBulletin 4.

Well to me its nothing like it to be honest with it's whoe different layout and structure along with the great social features. But yea they do have similarities - all forum software does.

    Invision v1 - v2 (Free edition - discontinued)
    vBulletin Lite - discontinued
    vBulletin 2, 3, 4
