If phpBB announced tomorrow that you would have to pay to use phpBB, what would you do?

Since I don't use it even while free, it would not change things.

IPB wasn't open source. It was released under a proprietary license like SMF for the longest time (though 2.0 will be released under BSD, which at least qualifies as "open-source").

If it was very cheap I probably would. I would have to revert to MyBB or Free Hosted phpBB.

Yes so long as development moved quicker and more mods become default etc, If you like a software it is better to stay with them and pay then move and not like it.

Depending on the price would depend if I carried on using it or not.

Using it atm , and after the positive experience, i guess i would be still using it even if there was a price tag on it.

Pay for phpBB? No thanks! Use it for free. Sure why not. If I'm spending money, it's going to be on a highly rated forum software like Xenforo. I've never heard any complaints about Xenforo from admins or forum owners. And, I doubt there would be any. I'm sure a paid version of phpBB would be comparable to those, in the $150 plus range. So why not just go for Xenforo or something like that and not something that had been previously open source or available free?

The first forum I ever started was phpbb. But after running into a few issues I moved to Invision Power Board (which was still free at the time). Then I started paying for IPB.

But if I had a free board I'd use MyBB instead of phpBB anyhow. Actually have done that. MyBB is legit and when 2.0 comes out it should distance itself from phpBB and SMF.

Yea I first started on phpBB, and I would never pay for it in a thousand years, and who would with MyBB 2.0 coming out? MyBB is great and I could see myself paying for it if it ever went paid. phpBB is still great but I would definitely not pay for it.

If phpBB went paid, I'd stop using it. Why? Because MyBB is pretty much the same and it actually updates. However, I would miss some of phpBB's skins (Hooked to AcidTech)
