As an administrator, how many threads would you say is too much to start on a daily basis? Is it 1 to 5 or does it not matter? Personally I think the threads you start all depends on how activty your community is, but what do you think?

What exactly do mean by too many threads? Do you mean how there are to reply to?

There is no such thing as too much threads, the more threads the better and more posts

Yea I agree. But sometimes if you have a BIG form like DigitalPoint, then your threads go unnoticed as there are so many people who constantly post. So thats when I see a problem.

Yea of course it is, but when you have 500,000+ members than a forum is not really enjoyable.

If there was only 1 or 5 it will never get off the ground, my sites always do a minimum of 15 topics a day as it keeps users posting with fresh content, it helps a form grow at a good pace as well.

Smaller sites may only need 1-5 topics per day, but big sites like your current and former ones may need that many. I guess it all depends on how many the members/staff decide to make on a daily basis.

But some threads may not get responses, what do you do then?

There is never such a thing as too many threads. Content is key to getting a forum going as well as growing. So I wouldn't even go as far as putting a limit on how many threads may be posted at all.

If anyone had a limit to how many threads made on their forum, that would be the stupidest thing I have ever heard of

Agreed. I myself would not want to be on that forum for very long. Setting a limit to how much people can post; leave that to post 2 host sites... not regular forums that are meant for relaxation or leisure.

It depends on the quality of the content though. You wouldn't want 5 threads, different titles, but about the same thing, would you?

Well, no, that's true. But all the same, while content is king, there isn't really a need to limit how many threads can be created. Like I say leave that up to hosting sites.

It depends on the size of the forum. If it is a brand new forum i like to make sure that each board has a topic that is less than 24 hours old, shows potential members that the forum is active.

It depends on how many forums it opens up with, and thus, each new forum should have 5 to 20 new threads for members to chat it up on, why? You don't want an empty new forum do you? Content is key to a new forum's success, and always has been.

Having too many threads is not a problem, you can always click the button on most forums that say "View unanswered posts" or somewhere along those lines to view the topics that have had no replies. Having more topics, the better! :)

Yeah I agree with you and the other members here. There isn't such a thing as too many threads, as long as they're not about the same subject. I'd love to be able to get 15+ topics a day from members other than myself on my forum :)
