Sometimes being talk bad about a website for no reason - but then again, it is publicity, and usually when someone mentions good or bad things about a website - people will want to check it out anyways.

So, what do you think? Is all publicity good?

I would say no, I have had this happen to me in the past through twitter, if its bad publicity people will check out your site, but you know for sure they wont stay, and it also gives your forum a bad reputation. So no all publicity isn't good.

Ya, and really, negative press should go left ignore, while you focus on yourself and community. Why give them your time? If you ignore, they shut up/

No, it is not. I have all sorts of bad publicity from a few different people, people spamming my forums link on other forums and people making things up and telling their own communities. Sometimes theese things cannot be ignored, especially if its a regular occurrence and the "troll" behind it is supposed to act like an adult. I wish people like theese would just stick to improving their own forums instead of trying to lower the quality of others.

Not really, bad publicity = bad business, although you should ALWAYS do your research to check if any reviews, etc. are legit and not some random advertiser who gets paid lots & sales commission to say good & bad things about their competitors, etc.

That is why I try and steer clear of top 10 rated sites, and go searching for sites from reviews from honest people like WHT for example.

Yea I hate when they do that, specially for webhosts. Before hawkhost when I was on fatcow, I bought it because I went to a couple of websites where it was rated the best. Well its obvious now those were fake, and probably fatcow owned those sites. I hate theese marketing techniques.

all the top 10 host listing sites get paid commission for referring sales, that's why you should always ignore them

I'd say it depends on how you handle it. For instance, Burst NET, who gets hammered constantly day in and day out, somehow turns things around and makes good come out of it.

Now with forums, there's always that chance that people will check out what all the fuss is about, though, trolls will most likely sign up and start trolling you.

Drama sometimes attract people for some odd reason. I'm still not sure why though, do you have any clue as to why drama attracts?

Well, if they're linking to your community, its free advertising, just ignore them, and keep on pushing forward. We all know haters don't lead to anywhere, and if someone is talking about your community in a bad way, just focus on quality content, which, in turn, would turn members into users on your community, as they like the content and such ya know?

Ya, its the same way in real life too, aye? But drama also = pageviews, and people will join up just for the drama and bickering, until the topic is locked, and such.

Most publicity is good publicity but not all. Some publicity can drive members away from your community, if reported from a reliable source. Even though it may be completely false, members may still believe them because of their reputation.

Yea I agree, I dont consider all publicity good, as it will drive off members.. while bad publicity may help, but in the long run it really doesn't.
