I don`t like it thats what the forum promotion section is for
If I find a member has been PM advertising I ban then from PM for a week
if they contune then they may end up with a temp ban from the forum

I usually give them a warning, then the next thing I do is remove their PM permissions for about a month, and then if they go above that its a ban.

That sounds better I might even add it to the forum rules then members know where they stand

Yea, its a fair way of disciplining the members before officially banning them.

It depends on the seriousness, if it was say pming a friend asking to join, then I would'nt mind, but if it was say the whole member base, or a high amount of members, then I may decide to either:
    1. Warn them
    2. Restrict Their Permissions
    3. Ban Them

Yea, it depends on the PM, on how it will be taken. If I started a new site, I would let my friends know about it. So yea thats okay, but Pming random people is not allowed.

If someone joins for the sole purpose of PM advertising, then I'll just permaban them right then. If they're a legit member, then just a warning.

Kaiser done that to me on PlanetGamers when AdminBB opened :(

I hate this and I think they need lifes, having time to PM members about there site, they could be doing something constructive with that time

When did I do that? You never PM advertised on my gaming forum if I remember correctly.
    Thats a fair enough rule.

I perma ban these people especially if they haven't posted on the site anywhere if they have I would give them a warning first and revoke PM permissions for a week or so.
I think anyone who signs up to PM spam has no intention of contributing to the community so the best thing to do in my opinion is perma ban these people.

I agree, and they are obvious spammers when they have no posts and then PM members.

Frustrating really as there are far better ways to go about it.
When I was with vBulletin spam bots were painful and got difficult to deal with.

If they don't have any posts on the forum, I just ban them for a week. If they do have posts on there, I give them a very severe warning, unless the advert was something that violated another part of my forum rules, like pornography.

Ya, it works, or you can also censor URLS that are being spread among PM spam.

For those who PM spam with 0 posts, that is why new members DON'T get access to such a system on my boards ;)
