Do you create forums just for the purpose of selling them for a quick profit?

Never done this, personally I wouldn't buy a forum unless it had around 30,000 posts-50,000 posts on them.

Never done this, never have a plan to, as I think it's pointless and people who do this are just money grabbers in my opinion...

I wouldn't either, I find it very useless but I see people doing it.

yea, that's why I try and avoid the forums of members who I know regularly do it as you never know the future of the forum once it's sold

Many dont even have the intention of selling until later on so you never really know. And yea once a forum is sold most of the time I have seen the new owners doing a very bad job.

Done it. Top earning was around 60 USD. The admin I sold to, didnt really buy to run the forum and blog, but to merge it. His community isn't bad either...he does take care of his blog/forum. So, my sell wasn't all that bad.

Like I said in the other thread a lot of members feel betrayed when a forum gets sold and the new owner loses mostly the most active members of the community so he basically just gets the name and not the workforce.

Truth is I could never sell my forum because I would get to much attach to the members and to the forum itself.

Trust is something you need to earn not something you can buy.

I've done this in the past with a business forum, it was called DiscussBiz. My partner and I did it to make more money to start other projects, which we did.

    Yea I completely understand you.

It becomes a part of you and you just can sell it just like that.

That's why you give the members a great welcoming/introduction message of yourself, and do not try to spark any changes to their community, as it'll cause a riot, ya know? I know if there was money in creating, and selling forums, I'd do it, but I would never do it for forums, if I fell in love with the members.

Like, I saw the community Battleforums.net get sold, and then the new owner tried to implement new changes, users left, and now its a dead zone run by someone who really doesn't care for it, so its sad.

    That's what greed does.

I mean I could even somehow understand if the owner fell in some financial problems, but even then I'm sure that a lot of members would help out with donations if he asked.

I would rather shutdown my site than ever sell it. My work is priceless to me.

What forums did you see it happen too? I just don't see a point of buying a forum if you're just going to let it sit, or do too many changes to it, were it pisses the members off. In order to buy something, you should start off by introducing yourself to the community, and getting to know the members, and thus, finding things they want to improve on the community. Am I right, or wrong?

I dont remember them all, there are many, but I agree.. if you are going to buy an active community, get to to know them, that way they will trust you.
