How often do you get spam on your websites? Last time I got any spam was 3 months ago when we were under heavy spam attack. Since then we haven't got any... but im always prepared as the fight against spam is never over.

Well, probably about two weeks ago, but we dealt with it fast. We get the occassional one that gets through the system, but that's it.

Another reason for us not getting spam lately is switching from reCAPTCHA to Q's & A's Registration fields as Captcha was cracked. There are also many methods such as:

http://admin-talk.com/threads/stopforumspam-integration.2179/ They have a mod for vBulletin, and you can also check out http://admin-talk.com/threads/ban-quick-email-providers-from-your-forum-prevent-spam.1051/

We were hit heavily by spam back in August of 2010 when we first opened up. It went off and on for a couple months at least. Now we don't get any spam at all, thanks in part to the spam mods we added.

I like how various forum softwares are coming out with good mods to at least keep spam at bay if nothing else. phpBB and I think Xenforo has some good ones as well doesn't it?

IPB probably has the best anti-spam features as they maintain their own list without the need of any third party services or plugins, but I'm not 100% sure if it's default or if you have to additionally pay for it or not.

Yea I heard of that, but its not the best since its only limited to IPB forums, but for example stopforumspam's list is from thousands of sites.

Some people dislike going to third party sites and having to install plugins to protect your forums, etc. that is probably why it is considered the best because it's default within the software and that you don't have to install any other third party plugins or rely on the services from others, etc.

Yeah that's the reason why I now don't have any staff on any of my forums lol.

Yeah the funny thing is all the people who are interested are genuinely really interested and once they become staff they go inactive. Haha oh well soon I'll find a really good member who will stay active as staff.

Trust me, thats what I hate the most I have had that happen to me often.. they show so much dedication, and are frequently active and post then once they are staff.. they are a complete different person and dont bother posting or helping.

My suggestion would be is to give them some sort of time period so you will know if they are fit for it or not.

I was hit a lot and I installed the StopForumSpam mod on vB and it helped, but still managed to get a few that slipped through that.

Yea, there is no complete solution to stop spam, but you can do a good job from trying your best to prevent it. There a SFS mod for xenforo, you should install it on WebGoro.

I rarely get spam on any of my boards though. Maybe like once a week, doesn't take too long to clear it myself.

Actually, if I recall correctly, IPS's spam service does call upon a few databases such as SFS.com.

But with XenUtilities (checks against three databases) + the Q&A system, I get nothing on XenForo.

I haven't dealt with much on MyBB either these days, but our only major switch was to the Q&A system three months ago.
