How many people here get those random spam messages or random people from the other side of the world adding you, when you have no friends who know them?

Ah I completely hate it. I get it quite often... its annoying.
I also hate when people dont know me, but they have mutual friends and they add just for that. I will only add people I know, even if they have mutual friends it dosent matter to me.

I sometimes have people who I don't know adding me but they all live within a few miles from my area. However, I think I have only accepted 2 of them and I quite regularly speak with one of them.

lol believe it or not I have blocked a few people and then they have made a fake accounts to stalk me, and I found out who it was because we have the same friends and my friend told me who it was. I never liked that person in school either.

It's very concerning what people do now in order to be in someones life or in order to find out things that have happened.

I hate them too, I wonder why they thrive on finding out things about other people's lives. I mean do they not have their own life?

Facebook can be the biggest offender about pushing people on each other. Every time I go to Facebook, they are always suggesting that I add a friend of a friend. As if I'm going to automatically add these people and have their 'activity' show up on my wall every five minutes. Why would I do that? I don't know any of those people. If I go to the person's Facebook Wall or Twitter page and they have something intelligent to say, then I'm likely to follow them. But, I'm not just going to add them cause they know someone that I know. How would that even qualify them to be a 'friend'?

I agree, just because one of my friends have friends of friends does not mean that they are automatically my friends too...

But most of the time you know them, thats how I found many of my friends if it weren't for that.

I know lots of people from Mylot but most of them migrated over to Facebook. Sometimes, I see them all over there on Facebook, but most of them are using their real names which they never did on the other site. So, it's hard to pick them out of a crowd, unless the mutual friend does the introduction.

I don't know my school friends college/uni friends, nor do I know my college friends who have friends from school/uni. The only ones I may know would be the "mutual" friends

It can annoy me sometimes when people decide to mask their real names on these social networking sites, because you can't really tell who they are, etc. if they don't like releasing their names on-line, then what are they doing on a social networking site to begin with?

Isn't that the truth! Social networking sites are all about fostering friendship and connection between people who might not have otherwise met. Some of my best friends have been ONLINE, yet I have never met them in person. And, covering up a real name on these networking sites is so fake and it attracts fake people. On a forum, you can have a persona, but on Facebook, it's better to keep things real.
