I myself dont delete posts, I just move them to the trash forum, and I tell my moderators to do the same.

XenForo also has nice feature where you can set soft delete, so if a post is deleted it can be restored anytime. My moderators can only soft delete posts, and admins can do both.

This is a great security measure just in case a moderator goes rogue and decides to delete tons of posts from your forums, and then you dont have to worry about losing the content as you can always restore.

So thats great feature. But I still prefer to have posts moved to the trash forum instead of being deleted as your forum's looses from it's post count.

Do you let your moderators delete posts?

Moderators deleting posts can decrease your posts on your stats, one thing i used to set up was make a Trash bin in Moderator Section of the Staff area and make sure Moderators only move it to there only.

Well, unless it's absolute spam, we usually move posts to the trash bin, then that way we still keep up an accurate forum count as far as stats goes. Of course, if it's absolute spam then I have no problem automatically deleting it.

I tell my mods to move the posts to trash, unless it's a spam bot then we will delete the posts.

XenForo has an awesome feature by default to get rid of spam called the spam cleaner, just one click, and the spam user's content is all removed, and the spammer is automatically banned.

That's kind of cool. I wouldn't mind seeing this for phpBB. Would make that job a heck of a lot easier that's for sure! I still haven't learned how to ban a user without deleting their posts yet.

I think you might be right. I don't know if we have it or not, though. I'll have to ask Ash when he comes back online.

We have a trash can where we move all posts too. We only delete spam threads, really, but we rarely get them.

I also don't allow them to delete posts, because you can go back and see what the user said - especially if its for banning purposes.

Do you guys allow users to see your trash can?

I always set-up a deleting mod so when a thread is deleted it's automatically put in the "Trash Can" section on the forum, this keeping your forum stats the same and not losing any posts.

Soft delete only to moderators, hard delete to admins, there is a trash can, but it's mainly used for pointless topics as all spam gets soft deleted and/or completely deleted

Yea I always delete spam. But I prefer to remove non spam posts to the trash forum then deleting them as we loose from our post count.

Ya, its bad for SEO purposes too. It's good to keep things private, and if a member asks "What happened", you can quote those posts.

I don't have any moderators yet but no...only soft delete. I think it should only be the admins decision whether to permanently delete things from their forum.

I used to let them and had some good posts being deleted. Now I do my own moderating and, if I was to need moderation help anymore, I'd most likely have them MOVE the bad topics / posts into a hidden category, where I can see what's wrong and act accordingly. not deleting posts is also a good idea if you want to have a 'proof' of what a member has done wrong.
