Do you ONLY affiliate with forums of the same subject? Or do you reach further out and go with all kinds of forums?

If I had to affiliate with other sites, it would have to be a similar genre.. such as graphics, webmaster, or tech as we are all of them. But not other ones genres for example like a car forum.

I affiliate with any forum.I have seen forums that require certain member and post counts to get added. To me that defeats the purpose of affiliating with other forums.

The purpose of affiliating or Link exchanging is for both forums to benefit from each other.

I used to do it on my old forum with any site, but for professional sites I would'nt recommend affiliating to any site at all

Yea I agree.. at first I use to think it worked, but in most cases it really doesn't.

Affiliate with similar (but not the same!) websites and similar traffic. If you can squeeze an agreement with a website that gets more traffic than you do, more power to you...On the same note, you don't want to affiliate with a website if their traffic is not going to "return the favor" compared to what you offer.

I also tend not to affiliate with direct competitors. It just doesn't make much sense, but related websites definitely does make sense.

I don't usually affiliate with competition (Same genre forums) unless they are a much larger forum. I like to affiliate with General forums, computer forums, or admin forums. Those communities usually have gamers involved within them. I haven't affiliated with anybody yet though because I want to get GamerBB on its feet before doing so.

With me running a general discussion forum I would affiliate with just about any forum to be honest, found it really helped aswell.

Just be careful with which forums you affiliate with, doesnt help you all the time.
