Has the power of social networking brought traffic and members to your forum? What do you all find the most effective site?

I haven't had too much luck with social network sites. I do have a Facebook page for Chatting Time, but that doesn't seem to be helping much. I get more help from promotion forums than anything.

Social Networks don't seem to work for me. I don't get much traffic from Twitter but it's still better than nothing.

It can be helpful, but it depends on many things.

Yes and on Twitter you must have the correct followers in order to generate traffic.

I am new to Twitter so I haven't a clue as to how to effectively use it. As far as Facebook goes, I set up a page for my website Childhood Cancer Forums. I got over 1000 people to join it, but not one to make the leap to join the actual site.

I've had only a very small percentage of people that have joined my facebook page to join my actual forum.

So I haven't had much success with it.

Well after four days of living the upgrade nightmare, I am finally back up and running.... baring any other code problems.

We get a lot of bot traffic from alot of different search engines almost the instant we tweet a post, thread or blog. I'm not too sure it's particularly useful for human visitors but it does seem to act as a 'come and get me' to the search engines, especially Google.

Of my members, though not many, Google seems to be my most loyal visitor.

I get more from Google than Facebook, but I get lots of hits from Twitter.

I should really conquer StumbleUpon now.

Haven't actually used any social networking for my forum yet, but I'm planning to. I've got one where promotion boards actually help as it's more a service/market geared towards forum owners but looking at expanding some of that..

When you're involved in helping others, giving knowledge, and rt'ing content - then you'll notice that people click your links more and spread the word. I find that helping people, and being apart of the communities is the most effective.
