Over time I have come to hate vBulletin4, I had the money to buy it, and I chose XenForo which is better in my book and many others like it better as well. The thing is that with vb4 they just completely messed up, the vb3 series was much better, and they actually listened to their customers back then. At this point if they released it for free, I wouldn't even think twice, about using it.

    Would you?

Apparently yet again in 4.1.3 (The latest) They found an security vulnerability, they emailed their customers about it. They should have found this in the beta version of 4.1.3. They are constantly screwing up. MyBB would be a better choice.

Make vB 3.8.x free and I'll use it any day, my team can handle the security. ;)

    vB 4.x no thanks.

Well, that's more or less what they have to do. Thankfully, they found it in a beta version so they didn't muck up before 4.1.3 went live. That said, it's kinda weird to patch-level every version, past to present, but whatever.

Oh okay I didnt know they found it in beta, and yea I agree they its weird that they patch every single version.

And for the question, would you use it if it was free?

If it was free, I would obviously consider it for sure. It depends on the situation, you know.

I doubt it would be free cause they still make a lot through its affiliations with various ad agencies and its corporate business.

Yea of course they will always be paid, IB is a very big company with tons of money so no doubt about that.

Of course, but still, you should not shut down options. Just lean elsewhere for a free forum software option.

If Vb was free, honestly yes i would use it but not in place of my xf.. i would not trade my xf for the world. I have a spare vb license and i will use it one day in the future for something rather than let it go to waste :)

I didnt like it when it was paid, I wouldnt like it if it was free. They suck. I would go with MyBB, its more stable.
