The topic was closed because everyone went off topic about SMF and started debating about free & paid software, and their styles not related to SMF at all.

If you wanted to continue the discussion in the thread, you could easily have reported the off-topic posts and request the thread to be split and unlocked again to continue the discussion there.

As for the choice of software, it is personal preference, if you think people who use WowBB are dumb as hell, that is your opinion so please don't comment about it unless you can come up with some constructive criticism about why you don't like it, etc. rather than calling everyone who uses it dumb.

I'm sorry that's my opinion, we are all entitled to one here, but that does not mean I or others are dumb for not liking SMF and the slow was referring to the length of time it's been in RC for V2 for a forum software that is pretty much basic compared to others out there.

If this thread is going to become a flame war against others opinions, then this thread will have to also be closed as well. If you have a problem with a post, then use the report button rather than publicly posting from now on.

    Thanks.

I have used SMF before, and I'm actually kind of iffy about it. I like it but at the same time I don't like it. I like it because from an administrator's perspective it's very easy to use, and the forum layout actually isn't that bad compared to some other kinds of software out there. The biggest downside for me is the theme selection. About one of the only themes I can actually stand is the default purple one that you get when you start a forum on that software for the first time. Other themes are either too dull or too bright, and some themes are just downright boring. I also prefer advanced hosting of SMF rather than the free hosting version of it. The free hosted version is just cluttered with ads, and there are ads after every first post in a topic, which reminds me heavily of the one advertisement service that Forum Promotion has, bubble ads or whatever they're called. Also, as many ads as they have on there, it can make your forum load slow. I think this is also that one software where, if you open your board for the first time, there won't be many (if any) ads at first, but then once you get traffic and start getting new members, then more and more ads start appearing. The ad placement is ridiculous more than anything. SMF on advanced hosting is better, because like with all software on advanced hosting, YOU choose whether you want to put ads on your forum or not, and you also get to choose where the ads should go. However, since I do like SMF to an extent, I have no problems with joining a forum that is run by SMF. If the board is on free hosting, then I try not to let the ads get to me and just enjoy myself on the forum. However, if memory serves me right, I believe you can pay so much for ad credits to have the ads removed from the forum, and I think just like with purchasing a domain, I think you might have to pay every month to keep the ads away from your site. Someone kindly correct me if I'm wrong though. Thanks!

I have to say, my new site tekfrkz.com is running on SMF 2.0 RC4 and it runs great, so far.
I use themes by Dzigner Studio and they look great!

SMF is fast and durable. The only thing is that it's look and feel have been the same for so long.
It's like a beefed up version of Proboards.

I agree. It just lacks new features. I know coming from using vBulletin for so many years, SMF is different for me, but it'll manage for now.

I really like SMF 2.x.The themes are very easy to install as well as the mods. The ACP is very user friendly. Permissions and membergroups could use a little tweaking but very doable right now.I have used many many different forums software(proboards included) and smf has to behands down the easiest to run and admin on.

Im not a fan of either, why? Well, because SMF 2.0 has been in beta stages for years... their development is slow as it gets, but I will admit SMF does have nice thems
