I'm not a fan of MyBB at all, changed one of my forums to it before, but I dislike it. It looks like a free forum, not even a free forum you host yourself. If they had some really good themes then it'd be much better.

I in my personal opinion agree with many others that the default themes on all of them get replaced as soon as things are set up. It all depends on the theme designer and a personal choice as to how it looks. Now the functionality of it is what this is based on.

I personally prefer MyBB first and SMF second. Because of the ease in which I can change or customize them to meet my needs.

Did you look at the themes list?

There are over 270 to chose from.

Yes but there all very similar to each other, I found a lot more customised themes on SMF.

    LOL,

It is obvious you have not seen a representative list there. There are many not even close in appearance to each other.

You are also being dishonest on the meaning of the word Custom theme. The listed 270 are NOT custom themes. They are generic themes made for anyone who like the one's they made. They are free and for general use.

A CUSTOM theme is a made to order theme that is dependent on the customers specifications. It is a PAID theme for a single person.

Try to less of a myBB hater next time.

Voted for phpBB3, IMHO its best freebie on market. Its developed by guys with great experience in web-dev. My only complaints are restrictive theming system and projects sluggishness in adopting must-have features, vide their long arguing against quick reply cos "forum is not chat").

I also had SMF, MyBB, PunBB and IPB 2/3 forum and so far phpBB3 has best headaches per day ratio from those options.

What phpBB lacks feature wise can be found as a hack. That is one of the great things about phpBB. It has a huge hacking community that is very active.

Actually I dislike installing hacks, I avoid anything that may be troubling during eventual update.

PHpBB is a great, simple to use, and easily customisable script, I've used it on a couple of projects with great success.
