Creating a forum to adhere to the niche of a specific site seems to be second nature but what are your thoughts on creating a stand alone forum with it's own domain? Do you feel forums with their own domain without ties to a website generate a greater influence of loyal members? If you were to create a forum with it's own dedicated domain would you later create a site around the forum or would you simply leave it as is?

There are quite a few forums available that have their own stand alone domain doing quite well but you have to consider the amount of success these sites could have experienced if they were attached to a website with a wealth of information connected. Consider if Wickedfire was attached to a website with an almost endless selection of articles based on each thread that was updated daily, would you find it more appealing? Would you find any forum more appealing if the answers generated or threads redirected you to an article to support the member's thoughts?
