So today I got a email notifying me of a PM here on AdminBB so I go to check it and apparently someone has been hacking forums and websites under my name and then redirecting it to AdminBB. This is not the first time that people have been posing as me but this seems to be the worse. I dont even have a clue how to hack forums. I really wish I knew who was behind this.

Here is the PM I received:

How did he get your IP? He said the IPs were the same...
I don't suspect you or anything it's obvious you're being framed, though your avatar would definitely make an awesome hacker picture lol :P

I hope you catch whoever's framing you.

Thats a question I would like to know as well. Kaiser isn't someone to hack a site, so the 'taking action' would turn out pointless. Also that thread has no one else who says there 'taking action' to Kaiser either.

I didnt get what me meant by the "IP's matched".. I was bit confused with that too. He probably made that up/exaggerated on that because where would he get my IP anyway to match with the person who hacked his site? He probably said that to scare me. I just hope this gets solved.

Well, they should be going through the correct steps to find out why.
    1. You obviously pissed someone off if you did not do this(Who hates you and is capable?)
    2. They all seem to be members on the same site(Compromised that way?)
    3. What board software did they use? (Compromised that way?)
    4. Or these people all on same hosting?(Compromised that way?)
    5. Who has their FTP and Site logins and info? (Compromised that way?)
Does not seem they are even attempting to figure it out. Seems more like they are ready to point fingers.
I mean I am not trying to be mean but if you do not figure it out its pointless. I have been hacked before it sucks, but if you do not figure it out , will only happen again.

I am guessing the admin of the other site you linked to gave him your ip after you posted on that site.. Just a guess...

Feel free to merge my posts being the site split them for some reason

There I have merged it for you, but there is no way my IP can match unless he just completely lied on that part to scare me. Its seems hes selling his domain now and hasn't said anything else to me about my ip matching to that of who hacked his site.

Sorry to hear that mate, I remember when someone accused me of hacking, and it's not pleasant :(

Someone must really be pissed off to do such a thing and point the blame (perhaps someone who has got pissed off about the sale of AdminBB ???), but as far as I'm concerned, you are one of the most honest guys I know.

Whoever owns the site hosting the image from: http://beckyweltoncmp.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/kkk1.jpg is most likely to blame for this

Thanks Ashley means alot. I have had a few enemies in my time foruming, but I have been very inactive ever since June so I cant thing of anyone with the grudge against me at the moment. As for the image.. good point you make but it can also be that the the hacker just did a quick google search of the kkk and linked to that picture.

I am guessing it was probably the host. I see multiple comments about my host does not have the files. That is one shitty host. I would find out who they use and make sure to not use them LOL

And the reason all those sites got hacked in the first place was because of the host's server security.. in most hacking cases it is the host to blame for having crappy security. People need to be very careful when choosing a web host.. if they need some help they can go through the thousands of posts right here on adminbb.

I did'nt think of that

I agree, if people insist on using free hosts that have only been around for a few weeks/months, they are only looking for trouble...

In your PM's you were obviously accusing me even after I said it wasn't me. You also tried to scare me which didn't work. You should go through some posts here on how to stay safe from hackers. As for hosts you can check out this forum. Spend some time here and read some threads, they should help you. Good luck

OK Guys, can we please try and keep civil and not go blaming each other, there is enough forum drama, and we don't need it here as well.

@noreturn: In future if you ever do get hacked again, remember that you can't just go round accusing people and then post and say "I didn't meant to scare or flame anyone but if you say it's not you I will trust you.." afterwards you need to get your facts straight first before going round and accusing people via PM. I suggest you take the advice from @Kaiser and look through these forums to help prevent it from happening again in the future.

Actually, Ashley.S. wasn't the only one being blamed for hacking forums. I was as well. But like Ashley.S., I have neither the skills nor the knowledge needed to totally deface a forum. I'm sure you probably need good HTML, CSS and probably even CSS +, but I don't have any of those skills at all, so it would be very hard for anyone to accuse me of hacking a site. For starters, I didn't take enough computer classes in high school to really get to know CSS and HTML.

CSS and HTML are not that important in hacking a site. Most times its some type of MYSQL injection or javascript injection. I mean if you are going to deface a site. It is really not something that is hard to do. You can learn to deface a site in less than 10 mins if the site is coded poorly. Not that I am condoning defacing, but yeah it is not like its some type of unlearnable or advanced knowledge. You could probably google MYSQLi and deface a site in the next 30 mins.

With that said, if you do own a site you are responsible for the backups and what not. If you lose your site because of no files and database that is on you. A site I once helped on was lost sadly, which I wish it wasnt, but oh well. Brandon knows what I am talking about :(

I still think "hacking" is an over used word, 9/10 it is the admins fault for using insecure passwords, that is password cracking, not hacking...

If the host was attacked, it was probably either because of poor security on the hosts side and that they got rooted or the owner had been using insecure passwords and a simple brute force attack managed to let them in as posted here: http://forumpromotion.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=827270#p827270 the owner of the host said that their reseller, email, MSN & FP account got attacked as well which suggests to me that weak passwords/using the same password for everything is to blame for this...

Why would it be him.. please don't openly accuse someone with no evidence. The sites getting hacked are all on his webhost, so what makes you think glock would do this?

I had been following this on FP. Sorry to hear that you are being framed, and I hope whoever it is is brought to justice.
