Site Sometimes Slow and Alerts are Too Late

I've noticed that sometimes the site loads slowly and I often don't get my alerts until after I've already clicked "watched threads and read a thread". Not sure if anyone else notices this, but it kind of defeats the purpose of alerts when I get them after the fact.

Can I get more detail?

I'm running Windows 7 at home and work and have reproduced it on Chrome and Firefox at both locations. It's just very odd. I'll first visit the site, then hit "new posts" or "watched threads". Then I'll click into a thread that I have alerts for (before I know that there are alerts) and upon viewing the thread, I then see the red alert box at the top. Haven't experienced this on any other XenForo site.

 

It's sometimes slow, then it speeds up again for me.

 

I haven't noticed the issue with alerts for a while now. I'll keep you posted if it happens again.

 

I haven't noticed it slow since we switched server.
If there is any slowness I'd guess it's with the online backups, I need to see when those go off. I think they are in the middle of the day for some reason.
