I just got a database error a few minutes ago while trying to access the site. What's going on? I see that a lot.

I'm getting the unexpected database error quite frequently when trying to browse and reply at 2:25a EDT.

I've been talking to the host and every night for about 20 mins the database is "locked" up to take a backup of all the sites.
I'm talking it over with my host to see what we can do, I may see if I can setup my own unique backup that wouldn't take 20 mins and shouldn't cause the issues some users are getting in the middle of the night.

    Hey @Brandon
What host do you use, if you don't mind me asking?

I had been gettign Server unavailable errors as well as database errors when i tried to post and in some cases I have accidentally posted the same thign 2-6 times without realizing it was actually posting :/ And I notice throughout the day it seems as if the site gets kind of slow for me(10-12 seconds) of load time for pages.

It doesn't bug me too much, between AT and Aex, these are my 2 favorite admin forums so i don't mind too bad :

With the exception of when I was updating the search index and counters, the sites been running fast for me.
If you could note the time when this is happening, and time zone so I know what time it's happening here, that would help.

    Thanks

We're still taking our backup about 1am CMT so the DB will be momentary locked up at that time.

Those are some attractive prices :D
where is this host located(US, UK, etc etc)

I'm in US(New Jersey) so whenever i do experience any lag it's usually sometime in the evening maybe 4-9 pm(eastern standard time). I'll have to be sure to get the exact time should it happen again.

I got the dreaded 'an unexpected error' occurred a few times last night. It was during your usually backup time though.

Yeah got the same error as well..

Brandon at the time did you run any of these commands on your database tables prior/during backup ?

create, drop, alter, rename, or truncate tables, or analyze, optimize, repair tables or flush table commands ?

How long does it take to go through your backup process ?

What's your server output for these 4 commands ?

    Code:
    php -i | egrep '(Client API|mysqli)'

mysqladmin -u root -p ext | grep reprepare

    mysqladmin -u root -p var | grep '^| table'

    mysqladmin -u root -p ver

I think if you enable php and mysql error logging, you should be able to get a timestamp for logged errors you're getting

okay.. so oddly enough when I updated tapatalk (our mobile friend) it broke the tagging mod.

I've disabled tapatalk and enabled the tag mod for now.
I'm going golfing, when I get back I'll see what's going on with tapatalk
I know they added an push alert feature and an option to add the @ sign before a persons name and you could tag them from your phone

    #update
