Yes! :) Some of my women friends turn first to sports during football season.

The women I know who are interested in all the topics you describe, FMB, actually do enjoy discussions with men involved. What they don't like is being talked down to by men, because they are women. But there are many men who don't do that. If you can get that dynamic going on a forum ... or find a forum that has it ... there are a lot of women who will be interested, self included.

I think some of the challenge of attracting women into such a forum that welcomes women is finding a way to make the overall look not one that makes women feel unwelcome when they first see it. People don't want to go where they think they aren't wanted. The women don't have to - or want to - see flowers and hearts. If the sports visuals just had a woman's face somewhere ... :)

Covering women's teams would be an interesting start, but if all the men can talk about regarding those teams is "I'd hit it", the women are going to feel degraded.

Thing is, it has to be gender neutral. There are several idiosyncrasies that are accepted as 'normal' by both genders. Those need to be recognized and addressed up front.

All things would probably need to be kept in the proper perspective as well. If the woman's sports in the world are 20% of the mens sports then there should not be more woman's coverage than mens for example, or the men would not join.

There is a HUGE untapped market for forums that do not have the negativity that forums now have. Family safe discussions to include the whole family including the grandparents. Religious groups that really don't want to read "I'd hit it" and look at soft porn (of either gender). Right now those groups are hanging out on the church forums and they do not really want to hang out on those forums, they would rather go to a non-religious gender neutral forum.

The ad revenue from specialty stores would be quite large, and no need for google ads.

My girlfriends old forum was a girls only forum aimed at younger people. She took the forum down and we launched our teen forum using the vb licence from that which was well worth it. If it wasnt for this single sex forum we wouldnt have got to where we are today, it taught us a lot.
