I'm trying to compete with a small handful (literally about 3 or 4) websites for google searches on one particular keyword and a few variations. The thing is the main site I'm trying to compete with doesn't do SEO, they don't have promotional runs or targeted traffic, they don't have a huge amount of backlinks, they don't advertise.... the owner doesn't visit the site. They literally sit there and google generates traffic for them. BUT they've been around a long time. At least 8 years. No matter how hard I try to concentrate my efforts on homing on on related keywords and scope, I can't get anywhere near them in google search results. And the keyword is low competition to top it off. This is the THIRD iteration of this site I have tried to make work for me but I'm positive now that Google adds precedence to old sites for longetivity rather than relevance of content. Has anyone else found this to be the case? What can I do about it?
