I am not interested in food discussion, the lounge, the home front or anything that is unrelated to IT / administrating.
Please provide a way to ignore all content from such sections, as wading through off topic content discourages from posting here.

I had looked into this when I merged everything over, I'll have to see if there is a mod for it now.

It looks like this will work
    http://xenforo.com/community/resources/ignore-whats-new-by-waindigo.139/
    what do you think @Alfa1

I never understood why an "offtopic chitchat" forum was imported into a admin forum...
Specially today it's a real pain
My Twitter newsfeed is full with "your" chit chat spam
What's new also returns only LOWEST quality spam threads (aka thread games) :P

    e.g

That's not why i'm coming here and that's the reason why i had several phases in the past, where i had to avoid this page
The forum name and the url are misleading :P

They where merged so it's easier for me to manage. TBH it really hasn't been a big deal for anyone other then 2 threads like this.
We also had a lot of tech post on the old forum that I wanted over here.
Maybe one day I'll split things apart, but I have no plans to do that right now.
I'll add the what's new mod so you who have brought this up, can filter out the noise if you wish.
As for twitter, you don't have to follow my accounts if you don't want to. ;)
Like it or not, the merge was good for Admin Talk. :)

I can see why the merge was good, as GF contains tech talk. However, I think you would do good by migrating away the off topic chitchat to a dedicated website. Especially in regards to SEO. But if I have settings to ignore it, then I dont care. THe mod looks good. That was exactly what I was hoping for.

This is the #1 thing I've been worried about as well.
I think I'll start looking for alternatives that we can import into from xenforo, I made a thread to get all the options listed in preparation.

I'll add that mod tonight so at least we have that until everything get sorted at a later date.
I'm actually going to talk with a good friend about this tonight, we may be moving the gen post to his site, which is a large general forum.

I do it by going into the general section when I first get onto the site and make those subforums as read. Then when I click the "what's new" button up top, all I get are the non-chit chatty threads and everything appears normal and on-topic to me. :)

Just an FYI... Tonight or the next few days (depending on how long it takes me)
I'll be moving the general forum content to the old General-Forums.com URL along with another database that I have.
This will mostly be everything under the "lounge" and "on the home front".
I'm sure there will be some things that need sorted but all those threads and post will soon be removed from the Admin-Talk.com site.
I may also remove the mod mentioned above since it wouldn't be as used as it is now.

I'll delete any members with zero post at that time, as well as members with zero post on the new General-Forums.com site.

This was my general plan all along with the merger into AT, but it's taken a bit longer then I expected.

Both sites will be running the xenforo framework.

Please delete my account on GF in case any of my posts land there.

Sure no problem, I have a copy over on GF now and will start removing all "admin" content from there.
Once that's done, I'll take a stab at the import.

I have everything removed on the new General Forums site but the "General Forums" section on this site.
Unfortunately after deleting the forums, the threads are still in the database and we have to wait for the next xF version to fix this.. :(

So short story is those section will remain here for a little bit longer and I don't want to import the database backup I have just yet otherwise there will be a 60,000 ID gape between old threads and new ones.

That isn't exactly a problem but I want to make the new install as clean as possible.

I'm going to move forward with the merger and removing the gen content from Admin Talk tonight.
By the time we're done this site will have around 70,000 post and General Forums will have over a million if my math is correct.

I've disabled this mod since it's not really needed anymore.

I would really like this functionality back. For some time now there is a flood of uninteresting posts here. Especially the superficial topics in the forums for web development, web design, and introductions.
I already visit this site less than before and this will likely decrease more and more if a large % of new content is uninteresting to me and interesting content is snowed under.
It would be nice to be able to filter out the sections that I do not read anyway.

I doubt I'll be adding that plugin here again, everything on this site is admin related.

    thanks for the feedback

One thing that may help in the future is the "subscribe to forums" which will be in 1.2 :)
