Hmmm, interesting topic. Don't think I would ever do it as I don't think it's worth it.

Really? Even if it's an established forum with thousands of members and hundreds-of-thousands of posts?
If you were to merge such a database into your existing forum, you don't think it's worth it?

Or do you just think the going price for competing sites is too high?

That is a little much for an investment that only pays you $50-$100 a month. Now I did find me a gun directory that maybe interesting :D

It's barely bringing any money in, yes, but that's because it's not being taken care of. The site is pretty much just sitting there.
I'm sure with dedicated owner, some nice revenue stream could be generated in no time.

Ya, I was checking it out and it doesn't seem like their trying to generate anything.

That site has been neglected for months, but if someone were to put some real effort into it it might bounce back. And there's some custom programming that could be a big draw if handled correctly (which it hasn't been). I'm sure all the admin forums are waiting anxiously to see who buys it.

I've never felt the need to "buy-out" my competition, but I have indeed thought about it. There is a fairly competitive website up for sale at the moment, and I'm highly considering making a move... we'll see.

I'm with ya! I have about 10 - 15 dollars to spare. I can probably ask my mom to let me hold her AMEX, too. But seriously, I have a few extra dollars.

If this is all serious, keep us posted, administration.

No, I have ever nor do I plan to buy out a competitor and I do not want a competitor to buy out any of my sites unless the offer is something that make me go ".."

I really love both of my sites. Both sites have a nice, cool member base. And to merge with another site, nah, not really for it.

How about buying another established forum...I'm not talking about the same niche market but completely different? I've though about it multiple times my self.

That's an interesting thought. By "completely different", are you referring to a community that was created around a subject that you are not familiar with?

    Nope, won't even do this.

I guess I like to have everything bona fide. I want posts to be original and all.

I'd never merge or buy another forum with my own. I think and I have always thought that we should get the posts the right way, we would feel more accomplished.

I don't know if he was necessarily suggesting a merge of the two forums - I think he was referring to purchasing a community individually and then investing (whether it be time or money) in it. I could be wrong, however.

I kind of thought he meant buy it, then merge the forum, but correct me if I'm wrong, 50Cal.

Well, if it was what you say, then that would be a 'maybe'. I'd have to be something I am very passionate about.
