I recently came in contact with this board - and only found out it was powered by SMF looking at the footer.

Is this not one of the best, or the best, designed SMF forums? At first thought, I thought it was powered by vBulletin.

I could only recognise it with the powered by SMF and the login time feature. I guess they did a great job by modding it :)

It's nicely designed, but the little paper post icons gave it away for me. ;)

Wow, found this site out through Awstats, and thanks for the compliments. I spent quite a while modding it to my needs (adding a second menu and the such).

I wasn't looking to completely copy vBulletin, but the skin was originally ported from a vB skin. Changed it a lot from the original version, to eventually make it what it is now.

Once again thanks for the compliments!

One thing I hate about SMF is that designers seem to almost never replace some of those ugly icons that ship with SMF by default. Such an awesome forum software spoiled by it's nasty default theme.

Uhmm... is that Simple Machines fault ;)

TinyPortal.net has some great themes as well:

The modders that do themes are not part of the Simple Machines team. So it's up to the modders themselves to do their themes with other layouts and buttons.
Blame the modders, not Simple Machines.

But there are a lot of themes out there for SMF using custom buttons and images. Check SMF Theme Site . More than 1000 themes to choose from! And then there's all the paid themes for SMF that can be found on the internet.

Professional themes on there are a joke. Didn't see any of the other categories anyways.

It's the author who decides where his theme is put, not Simple Machines. So if a guy thinks he made a professional theme, he choses that category when uploading the theme.
If you can't find a decent theme there, then it's because you don't want to. How does a cool theme looks to you?

I understand that, but did I say I hated the developers of SMF? No way, Jose. I said I hated SMF because people don't change the original icons. That has nothing to do with the devs, which, if I can comprehend correctly, I never mentioned in my post.
