Despite its lack of greater importance these days, is your site listed in DMOZ? Some people never get listed, some take years, and some get listed quick.

My Linnie Forum was listed in a matter of two or three months (surprisingly).

    What about you guys?

No. I vaguely remember submitting to it many years ago, but I enver checked back to see if we got included. I just checked and we're not!

I remember thinking at the time that it would have made no difference if we had.

People don't like listing us, I've been "on the waiting list" for big-boards.com for almost three years, I'm still on the list as I cannot resubmit but they haven't listed us.

Obviously "big-boards" means"big-boards we happen to like". My site doesn't fit well with the mainstream and these directories rarely like the look of it and steer well clear.

I think the reason is different than this. The problem is something else:

It is (well, was) very popular a while ago. I'm sure Wayne can tell a lot about it. :giggle:

It's still common, and it is the fastest-growing directory on the web (I think about 2000 new sites added per [strike]month[/strike] week?), so it certainly isn't being ignored.

DMOZ supposebly raise your Google ranking. Unfortunately the mass who moderate the lists there, are corrupt people. Only ensuring their own links and links of friends.

Tried many times to get listed on DMOZ, but I always get a retared reaction why my site wouldn't fit in. Like 'content not visible until registration proces' which is clearly bull, as I don't hide content for non-members.

One of my sites is listed, only because the previous owner used to be a DMOZ editor. None of my other sites have made it in. You'd think Google with all it's resources would make something better. Perhaps they have plans for it?

I signed up for it, but I don't think I ever got in or it ever went through.

My forum got listed not too long after I submitted it. I was ecstatic at the time. It didn't do anything for me, I don't think.

I have #1 site in my category. Not listed. DMOZ sucks.

I keep getting rejected, or no reply on my submissions. I finally gave up.

This would only be the second time I have come across DMOZ.

Last time I went there, I only browsed through the sites in hope to find a nice graphic design site. Never found one. :(

Any way, no, I am not listed in DMOZ - to be frank, I never knew I could submit my sites. I thought they would come to you.

It would be nice if any of you could give me a direct link so that I can possibly submit my site.

    Thanks

I personally don't see it as a biggy. Unless Im mis-informed and it actually has a use.

I gave up on DMOZ many many months ago. There's nothing special about their directory and my forum claimed its spot on Google without their help.

I get about 20 referrals from DMOZ a month. Not too much, but it's worth the 2 minutes it takes to apply.

Sounds like you're one of the few who made it in; did you submit long ago or were you lucky enough to have an active category editor?
