I'm thinking about starting a new general chat/gossip/fun forum.
I'm feeling restricted by my design site, and all these vB support forums. I need a place where I can open up, goof around, flirt, talk about anything and everything.

I have some good ideas for one. Now to find that ever-elusive perfect name/domain name.

I'm not sure I'll be using vB, tho. MyBB is looking good.

It's the name that almost always slows down the process, isn't it? It's frustrating to no end.

I found myself in the same boat a few days back, racking my brain and attempting to come up with something remotely unique. Do you have any ideas in mind?

We have a thread around here that talks about how hard it is to come up with a name. It certainly is difficult and often puts a damper on the production of a project or idea.

I think this new project may be a good idea for you. Everybody needs a place to unwind and be who they want to be.

Thread moved to Planning and Creating Interest.

General forums are difficult...I've had mine for ever :/

I am probably doing everything wrong though...

I wish you all the best of luck! :)

Nick, thanks for moving it to the correct place.
Yeah I need somewhere to upload my hundreds of smilies, and be able to use them. :giggle:

Yeah I've posted in that thread.

Kevin, what's the name of your site, and why do you think you're doing everything wrong?

The Stomping Grounds haha It's in my post bit ;)

I don't know. I had to close it for a few months for some personal issues and since then it just was never the same. No matter how much or little I post no one really cares LOL!

A general chat forum is quite hard to get off the ground due to the many general chat forums that have been created. You may want to rethink your niche and maybe incorporate a general chat forum.

A nice name for a general chat forum, though, maybe you can do an English-Japanese mix? However, I don't know the general translation to Japanese. Nor does Nei know it. :P

yeah I know there are alot of them out there.

I've been looking at sitepoint and digitalpoint for one that perhaps someone wants to sell - cheap.

    You didn't hijack it. I don't mind sharing :p

I'm not necessarily saying your site will fail. In fact, a site will only fail if the owner lets it fail.

However, in order to sustain your site, keep everything original. Make an original skin, modifications, rules, privacy policy, terms of service, etc.

Look at your competitors and see what they have. Differentiate your site/forum from theirs. :2cents:

Peggy, I think that you have the motivation to pull such a discussion forum off nicely, without hitch.

Kevin L, TSG is really nice, dude! I don't see how it could ever go inactive.

Are you still having a nice flow of traffic or-- what has happened?

Thanks Tom. I've started sites before that were successful, so yeah, those are definitely areas of importance.

Well thanks for the vote of confidence darlin'! :D

That's kind of an odd name. I really don't like it, either.

Peggy, that certainly is creative - I kinda like it. It seems a bit odd, like it's sort-of missing something... I just can't tell.
