I know that admins don't like to enable HTML in posts, because it leaves a door open to hackers.

However there is a case for allowing yourself to do it, ( possible in most forum software either by default or by add on), the main reasons have to be one of SEO, especially with the advent of HTML5 which allows you greater flexibility in how you present the post in HTML.

Perhaps the biggest benefit though is in the use of images, and being able to insert the <alt> tag. VB4 has a Mod that will do this for all images, and as far as I know it's the only version that will do it.

Restricting the use of HTML to yourself is a sure way of protecting the forum, you could even have a ghost account to put hackers off the scent even, but surely the benefits to your SEO, have outweigh the (un)likely threat of a hacker ?
