I mentioned their move here before, but jeez, they're taking a very, very long time to change forum software.

I mean, they started talking about Discourse in February. It's now August. That's more than six months to change forum software to a new script.

Yes I know forum migrations take time for large sites. But I've done them for medium sized ones in about a week or less, and most larger site migrations I've seen have taken at most a couple of months, not more than half a year.

So when will they finally switch like they promised? And would you say they're currently taking too long?

This quote alone explains so much about how I feel about Xenforo and other software. I literally saw this and i was like "That's exactly what i think."

This might end up being a big mistake.

Although Sarah mentions some things, which might be better for the users, I personally don't completely see the merits of the change from a user's perspective. The fact they are hiding the design as a surprise might just backfire completely. I guess, we'll see.

The comments are very interesting. The Discourse system Sitepoint is getting is a beta hosted version and Discourse is handling the migration. I wonder how they can then expect to modify the software, which was one of the reasons for the change. Hmm.... A hosted service, but fully root accessible? Interesting.
