Keep in mind you might have to pay IPS for domain change as well.

Yes, you have to pay both. Read a person talking about buying an IPS license other week and he paid them the license transfer fee, but they also hit him "which he didn't expect" with a domain name change fee also. Grabbers... thought it was a bit OTT that.

Not sure now, but think they charged "from memory" reading it, $25 for the transfer, then $10 for the domain name change. So in total it cost him $35 to IPS to change the license over.

Couple of things wrong with this....
    1. Tsufanatic you may not find a seller here on Admin talk. Check out
    https://extralicense.com/forums/invision-power-services.9/
I see a few for sale.

    2. There is a Transfer fee yes, but its not a big deal. It's only $20.
If you go XF, depending on if the license is expired or not, i believe the charge is $40 because you have to renew it.

    3. GTB spouting off bogus BS again. While there IS a Domain Change fee, that Only applies if the person who owned the license has done multiple domain changes in the 6 month period. Most people haven't done that. So a domain charge is not always required and likely wont be required.

How do I know? I sold my IPB license 3 weeks ago and I speak from experience :)
There was no domain charge fee. I deducted the $20 renewal fee from asking price and It took literally 3 minutes to do the transfer.

(Xenforo was a bit slower because they needed to ask a bunch of questions and what not. IPB transfer was done by and was quick and easy to do).

Like I said, I was going off what one person said after buying a second-hand license and what HE had to pay to IPS. And if you keep being an ass with your replies little kiddie, I'll stop respecting the fact you are just a kid. Which up until now I've done being old enough to be your dad.

    False.

If you go XF and the license is up to date, you pay no fee. If the license is not up to date, its not even able to be transferred. The license MUST be active in order for it to be transferred. There is not a fee for the buyer. Now the seller may decide to up the cost to cover that, but again, there is not a fee for any buyer of a transferrable license.

    That's just what I said :)

When my license was transferred to me, he paid the $40 renewal fee and transferred it to me because the license was expired and unable to be transferred.

You're right that the seller may eat that cost like my seller did OR the Seller may raise the price of their license to cover said cost as well So depending on the situation, yeah there is a fee still involved if the license is expired and it is up to the seller to charge it or eat it.

Also keep in mind, once you transfer the license...the new user is stuck with it forever. It can't be sold. I don't think IPB is like that. so i can transfer my license again. But i am not 100 percent sure but i dont recall seeing anything stating as such.

Are they counting that $25 (6 month renewal on it) + $15 for the transfer? But then you said IPS charge $20 to transfer a license, so that would be $20 + $25 (6th months renewal). That's $5 more than it cost him to do the license transferred to you at $40, unless they give a slight discount on transfer cost down to $15 from $20 if also having to renew the license. Or they put price up since?

If the licence isn't active, you can't sell it.

    Micah, you stated this:

There is no fee to transfer.
I was simply clearing up your explanation. Your first sentence is talking about the "transer fee", then you compare it to XF and state that its $40 if you have to renew it. Again, that is incorrect. If the person selling it has done it correctly, there is not a fee. Period. This renewal stuff should be sorted before they even decide to attempt to sell it.

you quoted me but nowhere in that sentence did i say there was a XF transfer fee.

I said if you go XF and the license is expired, you have to pay $40 because you need to renew it, so I am right.

You're not correct, because in all situations with IPS you have to pay them a transfer fee, that isn't the case with XenForo. I sold my active license on and there was no transfer cost involved. That simply isn't the case with IPS if you have an active license or not, and to make matters worse (as you pointed out), that if you've used it with so many domains already they'll get hit with a domain transfer fee as well.

You seem to not understand that you cannot sell a license unless it is valid, so that is moot. The owner needs to renew it, not the buyer. Simple as that. Is it that hard to understand?

And I never said that the you could.
What I said was the owner may let you know there is a renewal fee.

    How do i know?
my Friend went to buy a XF license and while the original owner paid the renewal fee, he let my friend know that the price was so high because he factored in the renewal fee.

As i said above, depending on the seller...they may end up eating the cost(like the guy did for me) or they may wind up charging you the fee in their asking price as well(in the case with my friend).

That's to be discussed with your seller though. You said that I said there was a Transfer fee, which i never said. I said there is a renewal fee which the seller may require you to pay if you wish to get the license. Which is true.

How does that make it worse? 99 percent of people aren't changing their domain names multiple times in a 6 month period, if you are....that is sketchy unless it is for like development purposes and even then Nah.

There goes the reading comprehension thing, I use the word Depending. Meaning I already stated that in the situation, it may not always be the case(i.e. the license's expired or not). Yes with IPB you always have to pay the renewal fee, but Depending on the situation with XF there may be a fee that the seller requires you to pay as well.
