You don't know expensive friend. There are plenty others out there that put the price of Xenforo to shame. VBulletin is one....for the price Xenforo is right in line with other paid software out there. An IPB license is going to cost you $150, UBB which is more a commerical software is going to cost you $139...so their price is right in line with most other wares out there with the one exception VBulletin. There are a lot of free ones out there but you get what you pay for.....if your going to buy a Mercedes and only have the cash for a VW then you obviously are going to settle for the lesser which you won't get as much for your money but its what you can afford. I have a UBB and Vb license and quite frankly if I had my time to go over I most likely would have bought neither one.

But if volkwagen was better than mercedes but cheaper then I would get it even if I had enough to buy a mercedes, so what I mean is price is just number, just because vb is cost a little bit more dosent make it better as I find xenforo better and it is cheaper.

Well I guess thats where we part ways I reckon. Having never admin Xenforo I cannot say one way or the other...I am waiting for UBB's Version 8 to come out and see what its like.....its just that if I remember correctly from another thread the OP is just 14 so of course its going to be expensive for some one that age....

I agree it is a bit on the expensive side, however it is very unique coding & has very good quality, so that could explain why it's slightly more expensive than other paid forum software.

It's priced as it should be. Unlike free software, Xenforo and other paid software provide support for their products. In order to do this, they need to hire another person(s) on top of themselves to provide the service.

Forum software also doesn't sell in large volumes like other software such as Microsoft Word. I'm sure if they sold more, they could sell it for less.

It's actually a lot cheaper than the other commercial options out right now.

Let's make a judgement on that when 1.0 goes gold. In the meantime, IPB seems to be stepping up their game as well, so who knows what 3.2 vs. xenForo will be like?

I would'nt say it's my least favourite, but I still prefer phpBB3 over other forum software though :)

maybe he likes to stay on the planet of phpBB3 and not venture out of it? :P

xenforo isn't the worst or the best in my book

it different which is both good and bad

it looks great but certain things don't work as well as the might possibly should it's just a little to different or complicated for some people

VB is great for mods but is very resource intensive
PHPBB is light weight but can be a pain for mods
MYBB is great for mods and first time admins but can set the curve way to low sometimes and can be very buggy
IPB is okay for mods but I view it as more of an image board like system security is supposedly hit or miss it's great until you start installing mods as they have problems or something

(I've worked with PHPBB/VB/MYBB more than i have IPB)

Of course, but regardless, it still isn't ready. Kier has not flexed his muscles yet, nor does he look to at least till a while later.

IPB has had security updates since 2.2, security is fine. It actually was almost spam-proof as well during this reCAPTCHA fiasco because of its proprietary Spam Service feature.

I think until they release a stable version of Xenforo we should wait and judge it then. On the other hand those of us who have never ran Xenforo can only base our opinions on the front end of the software and what we see.

Take a look at AdminBB on its stability and how smooth it runs. I haven't come close to a problem yet. Upgrading is real quick and easy.
