I've got nothing on my localhost except a MyBB forum. The only forum that I have right now is IPB (and I don't plan on opening anything after that for a while).

I know, but long-term, I won't be able to hold on to the forums due to university commitments and that stuff. That's why I'm winding down on what I do on the internet.

Well, there's other reasons why I want out, but I'll leave it to myself.

Simple Machines Forum. SMF is pretty easy to use once you get used to it, and the easiest to add mods or upgrades to.

@ gurdian, mybb is easiest when it somes to installing plugins, ain't it ? i am not good at SMF.
But when it comes to free forum software's, i always suggested mybb (found it lighter than Phpbb, yes, literally :P)

MyBB is the best free forum software, everything is great about it. And paid software has xenForo which is a beast.

I've never used myBB so I couldn't tell you. I used some yaBB and did not have great experience with it. SMF is smooth and seamless, takes less than 2 minutes to download, upload and install a mod.

YaBB isnt good. MyBB is the best free one, and SMF and phpBB are ok.

Well I use Zeta and Phbb. But MyBB looks to beat both of those. Really well done for free forum host.

I agree in both regards but as far as being the best I don't think I would go that far. Any software paid or free is a personal choice by the user. Any new forum owner that is considering opening a forum should look at all the available ones and make the choice based on their knowledge of php and other parameters. SMF while it has the advantage of one click install on mods and themes is most likely a good choice for the new forum owner that does not want the hassle of Ftp and all that other garbage. I have used them all mybb, smf, phpbb and a host of others and was never quite happy with them. Now that I have VBulletin I would not use anything else but then agian like I said it comes down to personal choice whats right for a particular user. All have advantages and disadvantages so more than others.
