    Well take https://www.vultr.com/pricing/

2CPU's, 2048MB Memory, 40GB Storage, 3TB Datatransfer and in 12 cities for 15 dollars per month. So i hope what you offer is per 3 months or longer else its a bit pricey.

You're going to need to oversell to have any realistic chance of having the lowest prices.

Instead of marketing your low prices, set fair prices, and provide exceptional service. I think you'll find that does your business better in the long run.

Overselling = An eventual reduction in good service.

To be honest @DriveHosting, asking this question alone shows gaps in your knowledge. You should know yourself. To be honest, your pricing isn't that competitive.

What I don't like is how so many hosting services offer so much bandwidth for the prices they have. For instance, even at the $0.02 Vultr's offer has for an extra GB of traffic (which is quite good), that would mean 3TB would cost $60...and that in a $15 offer? Granted, the 2 cents aren't their costs, but still.

I would say, not many customers actually use the traffic offered by such hosters, otherwise, they'd be going out of business fast.

    Yes. It's called overselling.

Well not really the bandwidth is there because its usable because clients do not use it does not mean it does not need to be there, its there for them so they have the option to do as they please with it there is nothing wrong with offering it.

And what happens, if the bandwidth is over userd? Vultr shows their pricing for more traffic and it is a very good price, which means to me they are a serious hoster. But a lot of hosters don't do this and actually, if you read deep into their policies, some leave themselves the right to actually shut down your site, if you take up too much traffic or too much activity on a server or they bust your ass with very expensive fees for extra traffic.

    Why do they do that?

It is like so paradox to the reason many people want a website and that is to grow their business (or whatever) and growth = traffic. It is like they are saying, "We want your business, but don't expect to grow with it here, without running into some serious consequences." That is basically a stupid communication, which is only saved by the fact that the amounts they offer are rarely "over used". Why have this BS then to begin with? To me, any serious hoster will not offer ridiculous amounts of traffic just to make their service look more attractive and then have to hide the real truth about bandwidth usage deep in their ToSes. GoDaddy and 1 & 1 are notorious examples of this.

You're kinda right, but sadly overselling is pretty rampant in the industry. If you're a newcomer/novice interwebs person, are you going to choose someone with 100gb of bandwith or 100000gb of a bandwidth for $5 a month.

The only way it works for hosting companys is to put a AUP in place that won't ever let someone reach their limit they've paid for. If you as a reseller are only alloted 100gb of space, and you have 10 customers you've sold on being able to use 15gb of space, you're banking on the fact some of them aren't going to use all their space. Which they won't.
